Pictures of different ST police bikes?

Picture378.jpg

My contribution....

Nice custom job...:scared2: Now you got some explaninig to do...

15+ mph impact. I was party 3 on the freeway trying to merge lane by lane in rush hour afternoon traffic (after entering the freeway ofcourse).

Noticed car in front was at a dead stop w/ non-operating rear brake lights......
Engaged ABS without a problem....next thing...I hear is....Tires screeching behind me.....
before you know it....I was backwards then forwards ....Motor went the left...I went to the forward-right off the Motor onto pavement.

Range Rover- BMW sedan- Me- clunker purple sentra that left the scene.

end of story

The ST was put to rest-R.I.P. (DOA).......... dealer quoted 12,200 to fix...damage. Rear shock was blown front forks bent....front faring damage.....to say the least.

Mmmm, I want one of those lidded rear cowls instead of the solid type on my bike... but not at the nearly-$1000 it would cost to buy and ship to the UK...

If those white mirror cowls are still retrievable from that smash...

I don't know where these came from but I downloaded them when researching whether to buy Shadowfax, or not last year. The blood carriers are included as I guess they were ex-Police.

The UK Police battenburg scheme was developed by researching the most eye-catching fluorescent yellow-green and then adding the colour-wheel opposite, which happened to be a blue akin to the UK Police blue motif. The smaller squares were ineffective at distance (like pixels merging on a photo) so larger, almost 1/4 cowl-sized squares were developed as well as wide stripes / chevrons. The hi-viz long-sleeve uniform jacket and white helmet "extends" the conspicuous colour scheme. I read this in a UK Police conspicuity PDF booklet a few months back and posted it in the high-beam in daylight thread, I think.

With all this evidence for mounted rozzers / LEOs to be highly visible I'm dismayed the US LEOs ride in what amounts to be urban camouflage and as available in other threads the riders don't all do ATGATT as uniform. Sure, the number of strobes beats a night out at a rave but that's when on a chase; what about just patrolling? And here's the politically incorrect civilian observer statement of the day, shouldn't the US mounted LEOs be setting an example? :scared2:

I hope the pictures add to the collection here. I really liked those metallic green STs by the way; hi-viz, or not.

It will take some time before the battenburg design catches on here in the US...you see variations (http://www.addisontx.gov/Departments/police/News___Articles/Addison_Police.asp), but nothing like the UK. In the meantime we break tradition with our uniforms for now...this in the summer: http://www.ondutygear.com/blauer-8132.html and this for rain/cold weather:http://www.ondutygear.com/blauer-9970-1.html

Some on the team were leary at first, but everyone, including the chief, likes the gear...folks truly see us on or off the bike...but the bikes stay black and white...for now.

Ouch!!! Glad you're ok.

At my last place of employment, one of the motor officers was chasing a guy who came to an abrupt stop and then threw it into reverse to strike the officer. Officer got thrown a fair distance. The ST was pretty tore up but repairable. As far as the officer, he only had mild road rash and got back to his feet to yank the guy out of the truck through the window, IIRC. Considering the officer was not of the "out of shape" description, (Each arm looked like it had swallowed a bowling ball) I would not have wanted to have been the driver of that truck.

Check out the avatar to the left... While it is a "artist rendering", it is a sneak peak of things to come...:woo

Why's the top box over the pillion seat: Physics or practicality, if you dont mind me asking?

I still like this green by the way :) although reservations conspicuity and all that. And what's that screen and is it useful?

That screen looks like a Rifle touring screen.

I think that green is rather classy. However, if you want conspicuity... :mw1:

Pat - if you mean the black frame protectors, yes, they are Bike-Quip kit (as is the windshield). The bike was supplied with them, and it still looks fine, so I guess they work!

Even more useful, though, are the clear plastic foot deflectors on the lower fairing, which are VP Accessories rain shields. I've had them on all my STs and they are very good!
