I always figured they must have just a view-glass where you observe the flow... or the bubbles after driving off on green...
I remember when a car had enough room to work on them, oh and drop your wrench or socket you picked it up off the floor.

I could do that to work on the 351M in my '78 Bronco.
With the lift kit and oversized mudders, I barely had to duck to pick anything up from under it!
p.s. - I loved that truck.
In 69 My best friend had a 59 dodge same as in the picture for his first car. It was lots of fun.

I had a 79 with same engine. Mine had a 4 speed with granny low. Had to sell it when we moved into our new house. Had a 23 month old and one due any day. Needed a refrigerator and fence worse than the Bronco. I did love it. There is a place near hear that specializes in restoring those. I'm afraid to stop in and look.I could do that to work on the 351M in my '78 Bronco.

Yup
The 351 Modified is supposedly a 400 destroked to 351 c.i.... massive torque.
Great gas mileage on the highway with the 4BBL carb (25+ mpg) but sucked in the city.
I used to go to Horton's every evening for a coffee & wound up selling her when the gas for the drive began to cost more than the coffee.
