Old Enough To Remember?

In 1974 bought new dodge D-250 custom club cab long wheelbase, 2-wheel drive, 3 speed on colum, 318 ci engine, full floating rear axle, only AM radio, no ac, no cigarette lighter, rubber mats no carpet! Before taxes $4500.00. Try to buy similar truck today.

in 1980 Reluctantly bought new Datsun 200 SX for the wife. I wanted to buy a 1980 Dodge Magnum! Thank you wife! Datsun was flawless for 7 years no repairs needed!

Yeah, those American cars were terrible, gas guzzlers [25 mpg] gutless [254 hp / 425 ft/lb out of a stock 2bbl / single exhaust] and big polluters; [nearly 1/3 of the NOx of the last four billion zillion volkswagens sold worldwide], not only that... get real.

But what a land yacht - and the ride was like on a cushion of air!
My parents were big fans of Pontiacs and I had a 64 Catalina (389) for a while.

Metal bumpers!!!
One of my genius moments when I was a kid was when my dad needed to give someone a jump-start on the highway, but the cables weren't long enough for a front-to-back jump.

I suggested separating the cables, clamping one to the other, connecting them to both cars' positive terminals, and pushing the chrome bumpers together. Dad was so impressed.

I've had a few Dodge Vans and as low guy on the totem pole in a service company drove a few horribly worn out ones [think the oldest was a 71]. I bought a short wheel base 82 at one time with a slant six and three speed manual which got a lot of laughs. Worst one was an 84 on propane, broke the crankshaft between 6 and 7, put another used engine in, broke it between 6 and 7 again. Still have a old get-away-van that I can't let go. Hey... it's a Dodge!

I had a '68 Buick Wildcat convertible, like below, but black. 430 4 barrel, premium, gas guzzler, 4 drums. 1st car, rust bucket in Montreal's climate, but nice on the highway. They don't make them like this anymore.
