Us up north dwellers have to laugh when the down south places get 4 inches and everything shuts down. For us it's just another day of winter. Do they use salt down there Uncle Phil?
Yes they do - but around here there is usually ice under the snow and it's laying on hills.Us up north dwellers have to laugh when the down south places get 4 inches and everything shuts down. For us it's just another day of winter. Do they use salt down there Uncle Phil?
When we bought our property (a hilly wooded area) 31 years ago we thought it would be real cool to build the house away from the road down a couple hundred yards over the hill with a curving downhill thru the trees driveway...and it was that first spring, summer and fall. But the first winter we had ice then snow then ice and we were literally stuck here for days unless we wanted to hike out. My son (who couldn't get to high school) and I literally used a pick axe to break up the ice in chunks and pitch it into the woods. Looked like the guys in the Disney cartoon frozen cutting ice.Yes they do - but around here there is usually ice under the snow and it's laying on hills.
It's one thing to drive on the flat on ice, but it's whole different kettle of fish when the ice is on an angle where brakes are 'nullified'.
I live on the backside of a steep hill and I can tell you if it gets ice covered, good luck on getting up or down it without some real thrills!
We still have a good 4 inch's on the ground but the main roads are clear. Loke you waiting for the next one.As Bug Doctor predicted, most of ours is gone with a little bit still on the ground
That's what I call around here a 'Kroger' forecast.Originally in SC we were to get 5-8” of snow overnight on Tuesday, then yesterday it was lowered to 3-5” and I checked just now and it’s even further down to 1-3”. Probably just a dusting by the time it gets here and that’s fine with me.
