Living with Code 25/26

This is my 2nd damaged ECU. I bought the bike in winter and everything was OK. Summer came and the temperature jumped to 30 degrees C (86F) and errors 25/26 appeared. That's where the idea of freezing the ECU came from. I replaced the ECU with another one. I managed to ride another season without errors and this season errors 25/26 appeared again. I was riding on mountainous routes on bumpy asphalt and the temperature was of course high 30 C.....
Now I have another idea, I want to ,,transplant'' the entire harness together with a newer ECU from 2008 upwards. They are built differently and supposedly don't break down.
May I request you make a video of this, or take a thousand pictures…..I learn by watching….
Thankyou!

If the "operation" is successful, I will make photo documentation. At the moment I am waiting for new harnesses purchased on eBay.

A while back, @CruSTy was looking at adapting a 2008+ ECU to an ST with earlier harness to check if the ECU was compatible with an older ST.

Your approach is a quick way to get the answer. The 2008+ harness could turn into a hot commodity!

Still working on the adapter harness. Its near complete. Sorry the loss of my wife kinda took the wind out of my sails. If someone with an 07 or earlier ST1300 is near I could use a test bike. I can use my own but requires removal of the top box and tail which is a pain. Also my ST1300 does not exhibit the code25/26. Would be nice to have a filed one to prove the 08 fixes the problem.

If another bike doesn't show up by April of next year, I could ride my 2005 over for a test. It currently shows code 26 if I get above 4k on the tach, but otherwise has no issues other than a red F1 light. It's a non - abs bike with easier access to the ECU.

Test harness is complete. Looking for a 2007 or earlier bike to test with. I would prefer one without top box mount for easier access to the ECU.

Sorry for your loss!!!!
Djeeez, Joseph and Mary!

I’m a bit slow….
And I know some of us on this forum are….not naming names at this point…

Seems like you’ve done quite a work!!!

My theory to solve the lack of available replacement ECUs for 07 and earlier ST1300. I ordered an ECU for a 2010 which are readily available. I built an adapter harness to connect the new style ECU (33pin x2) to to early (26 pin x2) wire harness. If it works successfully it will give us some options for those with failed ECUs.
