Itchy Boots

Watched Noraly's engine repair video today. Those mechanics were amazing. They should open a shop in the US and work on ST's.

That video had me reaching for Valium!
Using pliers to assemble the piston to the rod?
Putting all the clutch plates in dry?
I will say they hit her back on the road, but I wonder how long that new clutch will last without glazing over being put together dry?

Maybe everything they did wasn't shown....you're seeing 2 days of work in under 25 minutes.
Did you see any torque wrench being used....or laying around? Doesn't mean they didn't use one.
If she's worried about bits of clutch still being in the engine, why wait a couple 1000kms to change oil? I'd be doing it in couple 100 if worried.

But what was shown was grabbing the piston pin with pliers, on top he bearing surface!
And the clutch plates were dry.
Tapping piston to align things is probably not the best way to do things. However, when in Rome….

First of all, given their workshop, it's amazing that they got the engine all back together and working. I would think they should have split the cases, washed everything in a solvent bath to get rid of clutch fragments, then reassembled the engine on a bench covered with clean paper. But, this is Africa where there are probably not too many engine workshops doing Indy 500 kind of engine assembling. Even the guys who overhauled her bike at the end of Season 6 did not have an immaculate shop. That said, the engine did start right up, it already has a few miles on it and I'd be willing to bet it is going to run very well for her.

It was interesting that I never saw any evidence of a Honda shop manual ... apparently all was disassembled and reassembled from memory (?)

Admittedly, though I understand. I replaced the clutch on my 1st bike at 14 yrs old. (Yamaha 60 Mini Enduro). And rebuilt my first car's engine at 16 yrs (you know, to soop up the engine with high end pistons, cam, etc). I did those without any sort of shop manual. Scary indeed ! :thumb:

A bit ironic ...

I'm currently watching the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup ... guess who?
Netherlands vs South Africa (now 1-0 at half)

That Netherlands goalie is very awesome!

I wonder if Noraly is watching (?)

I'm just getting caught up, and see after Alaska's multi-week downtime, she's running again -- I would think riding would take precedence.
She would have to be off the trail and in some village or town if she is watching.
It likely depends on the time of day, as well. But I doubt she puts much priority on TV or sports in any case.

Time! What she is doing is a full time job. She has to scout places to stay, where to ride and how to get there, unpack for an overnight stay and do all the normal housekeeping chores we take for granted. There is bike maintenance, clothes to wash, meals, programs to assemble and, maybe, just a few ZZZ's to catch up on. Watch TV? Maybe while waiting for parts, otherwise, when?

Room time is editing time.
It IS a full time job, she detailed it at the big ADV conference a couple weeks ago.
I forget the name of it, but she was on stage about an hour. May have been in England?

It was the annual Adventure Bike Festival at Ragley Hall in Warwickshire, England. Noraly was a “secret” star attraction along with Ryan of F9

There's gold in them thar hills ...

thread is getting quiet

Speaking of the Netherlands... they are playing Spain right now (FIFA Women's).

I watched the most recent one through Ghana and all of the gold 'mines'. It's really a cool way to see different parts of the world from her point of view. The people are incredible. Seems like everyone is nice! (which is cool). What also struck me was the landscape where they have done gold mining. All pockmarked up.
