Itchy Boots

Have you watched her videos through Norway?

Drop-dead beautiful scenery. And instead of a support crew like the other well known teams use, she's by herself. She does all the filming, editing, ...everything. And her love for motorcycling, adventure and people really come through.

Chris

Yeah I'm watching her videos sometimes. All above is true and I get it. But... there're many men and women doing the same. Look up on YouTube or read reports on ADV rider.

There are. But few, if any, are recording it as well as she has done so far. And fewer still are doing it alone. That's kind of the entire point.

It is hard to put your finger on what exactly it is about her videos that has made them so popular. Probably no one thing but, for me, in no particular order, it is:
- a lot of time is spent talking about where she is riding
- always upbeat even in the face of adversity (the crossing into Kyrgyzstan for eg.)
- appears to have no trepidation about where she is going. I was a little worried about her going through some middle eastern countries where females do not enjoy the freedoms that we are used to seeing here.
- at 15-20 mins, I find the videos just about the right length of time.
- not a lot of time spent on long introductions to the videos.
- watching her learn as she goes

Along with all of the above, is the lack of hand-wringing and drama of many others. No product or self promotion. She has given credit to Rev-It for gear, but she mentions it once and done.
I hope she finds a way to keep her videos coming, and able to continue her travels soon.

For many reasons previously mentioned the sum of the parts is that we fans find her far more engaging than others doing a similar thing. She give almost no presenter/travelog feeling but a very good "you are here" feel. It's almost as though she brings viewers along for the ride while eschewing actual riding partners.

I find her enthusiasm and joy for riding to be sincere and infections in a non-COVID way.

As she has no job proper she's become an entrepreneur to finance her travels not to become a rich YT celebrity (yes, boomers, it is a thing). She does make occasional mention of a product or service, but it's not hawing by any definition. She lists kit she uses per requests and that's not any different than what most of use do here but she's still one and done and on with the show.

I like that she uses an intro and "Good morning Internet". The "Hey guys!" that so many use sounds perfunctory lazy and assuming. She asks for a subscribe and a Like for each video and done. No "it really helps me if you...". Short and sweet.

That said she's a one woman show doing it all and can do it all because it's just her. She doesn't want actual company but if there was more than her than they would have to pickup some of the load. She also keeps her videos short so the need for content is less. She chooses to do three videos a week at this point. It would be less work to do one video a week and a lot more to do hour videos suitable for a real network outside of YT regardless of its pretentions.

So I do give her props for what she does but I also know that it doesn't scale well and she's doing a different gig entirely and that the apples and oranges comparisons will not abate.

The video teaser for her Dutch Police motorcycle riding academy trip. Basically, just Noraly explaining who she is and what she's been doing the last two years, in Dutch.

....which Google translates as:

Two years ago Noraly, AKA Ichty Boots changed course. She sold her house, quit her job, and hit the road. With her motorcycle. Solo. Two years of traveling around the world followed. Noraly has reported on these travels and her adventures on her Youtube channel Itchy Boots, and with success.

Forced by Covid, Noraly had to end her last journey early and she returned to the Netherlands.
Sit still? That's not for Noraly, so she decided to report on the different facets of the Dutch 'motorcycle scene' via her YouTube channel.

After a circuit training in Assen, trial riding and mud gulping during the cross-country race, we feel a little honored that Noraly will join us for a day this week.
At our Center for Enforcement and Mobility in Lelystad, Noraly joins our course participants for a day and undergoes a training day.

Wondering what this day will bring Noraly and us? Then keep a close eye on our channel and that of Itchy Boots next week!

This and a couple of other bits make the text read as though it's by/from the Dutch Police site. Is that correct or is it a function of the translation or the syntax of the Dutch language? It would be pretty cool to have the 5-0 advertising her visit.

Or Noraly advertising theirs.

The video is on the Politieacademie Rijopleiding YouTube channel.

"I thought you would be taller" haha. another fun episode. Loved the father son race too.
Noraly was a trooper on a bike that was too big for her. amazing! She did have fun.

I signed up too. Most of my "subscriptions" don't seem to pop up to bother me. But it'll give Noraly some cred when she tries to book something in the future. And it'll make the kid's day too.

Near the end, she encourages her viewers to subscribe to the boy's Youtube channel and surprise him. He now has over 3000 subscribers!

Same here for all the same reasons. That kid was really awesome and had some great people skills for a 12yo. When I signed up it was about 2500 subscribed. Anybody see a lower number before adding to it?

Wow I just checked his page and it's at 4.58K! Talk about talk softly and flash big blue eyes...
