Pashnit group buy pricing on the HealTech gear shift indicator now available for the ST1300 earlier years
http://www.pashnit.com/product/gipro_ds.html

I installed this on my ST1300 days ago. Easy! Right tupperware must come off and locate speed sensor plug. Harness has a M-F plug which plugs in each side. Harness has two wires, one has plug which goes to display unit and the other end splices into Yellow-green tach wire on ECM or (in my case) Y/G wire going into instrument panel, only one wire to splice! Display unit can be mounted inside the instrument panel, under clear cover in the "Blank" area by speedo needle. Unit Learns gears, literally takes 60 seconds to learn the gears. Start to finish 3 hrs, but now can do in 2 without problems. No longer reaching for that 6th gear.

Part #s
Giprox-Rd is the red display
GPX-HO1 Honda harness

Didn't take pictures (did after work) but if someone wants local help we can take pics at that time.

looks cool

I'm wanting this.....

some guys have mounted another type disply in the area where ST1300 is indicated on the right side of the dash area, where the blue hi beam indicator is, hhmm...

I guess by the speedo would be ok too, or is that the only place for this one?

thanks for the heads up on this farkle...

was reading the web-site, and now I'm confused ( it doesn't take much)

do you buy the wire harness and the indicator seperate?

and the web-site info states that there is only one connection needed, no spliced needed, and that the plug-in is done under the seat????

You need the GPX-HO-1 and the Gipro-X-?? whatever color indicator...

You can use the Product Advisor... it will display what parts on the bottom of it ;)

yes, thanks

talked to the Pashnit people...

group buy is $132.99

I think I'll get the blue one, and mount it on my dash shelf, so I don't have to look down...

Yes I believe there is room by the ST1300 on the right but that ST1300 is lit and noticeable at night. The display wound not cover it completely. Funny I've been looking at that spot also.

Cool. How do we get the group-buy price?

Just go to the link in my first post and order there, already set up. If you have questions just let me know. Very easy.

Today I tried to "trick" the unit by shifting up 2 then down 2. Each time the gear was correct. Amazing!

Seems like a lot of money to pay for jnformation that is already available free. Just integrate the data from your speedo and tach in your head. Here, I'll show ya: 3200 RPM and 60 MPH = 5th gear... and so on.

Just sayin :)

This has been hashed about before Pete, and you're correct it is a pretty easy thing to determine. But there are circumstances that counting shifts or quickly checking speed / rpm aren't that easy to do.

Riding in a bunch of stop and go traffic, lot's of cars passing, slowing, turning. You're speeding up slowing down constantly to avoid traffic, make your turns etc etc.

I easily found myself not being sure if I was in 2nd or 3rd many many times, because I was mostly concentrating on the (bdc) traffic, and would sometimes shift into 1st (yikes!!) when I wanted to be in 2nd, but didn't realize I was already.

My vote will always be for motorcycles to have a gear indicator, always. It's really almost a safety issue imho.

You have a point there. This gizmo hooks into a lead from the ECU to read the gear position. The question is: if this information is already known to the ECU why the heck didn't Uncle Soichiro just spring for another display and show it to the rider? It can't be a cost consideration with the ST's price.

My '85 Sabre has a gear position indicator but no ECU. It just has 7 wires running to the instrument cluster and depending on which is energized, it displays a number. More involved than it would be on the ST but they did it way back then. Not only that... the Sabre has self canceling turn signals, also not on the ST13. So it makes one wonder.

Wanted to clarify my point a little better, I'd never shift into 1st going in a straight line, it would happen after the mentioned circumstances and then approaching a turn. I hate to lug the engine so wanted to be in the right gear for the speed... 2nd or 3rd... 2nd or 3rd... I forget!

I agree Pete it really seems like an oversight? I just don't get it. And it is one of the things that I like about the FJR. The product by the OP sounds pretty good and if my next bike doesn't have an indicator I will certainly get one!

regards,

My '79 Suzuki GS had the same thing. I guess it just isn't much of a selling point.

My GT750 Suzuki Waterbuffalo had it. My Suzuki GS750E had it. My wife's brand-new Suzuki Gladius has it. I like a digital gear indicator. I wish the ST came with an integrated indicator. But, since it didn't, I just may have to look into this one.

LOL, I used to do that, but being pig-headed I would still check...just in case.

I'd buy one, but I'd rather have a 6th gear. Where can I get in line for that?

Kidding aside, if I'm not cranking at least 3,000 rpms I downshift. I do find myself always grabbing for that 6th gear. STill trying to wrap my mind around the fact that 4,000 rpms at 60+mph IS 5th gear.

I am in the process of installing a GIPro and having connected it to the tach wire (Yellow/Green) I am not getting the expected response.

HealTech tech support suggests connecting it to the ignition pulse generator to fix the problem, anyone know where this is located?

I imagine that without the problem I am seeing this is a simple install, but mine is turning into a lot of work.

What year ST1300 and what model gear shift indicator did you purchase?
