Replaced my halogen headlight bulbs with H4 LED units Sat evening after a 300-mile joy ride. Replaced all the turn sig bulbs with LEDs, too. They were ezpz.
The first headlight bulb took about an hour to install, the second was 20 min, tops. Didn't have the cuss the dog or kick the cat on either one, really. The pinch points on the harness to bulb connector took some time to figure out (pics below), and the spring-wire retainer that holds the bulb in the reflector took some time to cogitate correctly for removing and re-installing (pics, too).
For the infamous "tabs", I just used my BMW tool kit chrome plated lineman pliers to trim off the two out-of-place tabs. EZPZ. Then, if you are very neat, and I know that you are, you can trim the edge of the mount. Your pocket knife works well if it is very sharp, and I know that yours is, to trim it so's you can't even tell they were there. See Pics.
Remove the mounting ring from the bulb before attempting to install anything. Install just the mount ring first, then the spring-wire retainer, then install the bulb. AMHIK.
It looks to me like Honda designed the rubber dust cover with a fan-cooled LED bulb in mind with the hole in the dust cover for the rear of the bulb (or LED fan). Everything went together perfectly in the end. (Had to cut holes in the beemer dust covers)

These are the locking tabs, (one each side) on the wiring harness connector to the H4 bulb. It is necessary to squeeze them very hard to remove the connector from the bulb. They are either side of the wire entrance.
This is the spring wire retainer on the rear of the OEM H4 halogen bulb. Its necessary to push in and sideways on the "U" (mid upper right) to release the retainer. It pivots back and out of the way, hinged inder the JIS (phillips) head screw lower left.
Beautiful tools come with a '00 beemer:
Told you so:
DO NOT let the mount ring fall into the reflector as I almost did. There would be hell to pay. Spring-wire retailer clip swung out of the way lower left.
Stick your bird finger in the hole of the mount ring while looking into the reflector and guide the mount ring into place (it only fits one way):
