Headlight Bulb Out,Time to look for replacments!

If
Simplest, easiest, solution will always be buying the o.e.m. bulb from Honda and do a simple remove and replace. Just me but I find the original bulb adequate for most my riding needs. If I need more lights I use the high beams.
If you ever ride with LED'S and auxiliary lighting you would think your lights were burned out if you went back to the OEM halogens.

- the ST1100 headlight module has a fresnel lens, and with the OEM reflector, is designed around the precise positioning of the OEM bulbs’ filaments to focus the light correctly. I’m thinking the lens may need to be replaced with clear plexi. If so, a salvage module with a broken lens would be the cheaper way to start. I could be wrong...

I bought a pretty cheap module, so I'm not put much if it doesn't work. The projector needs neither the lens or the reflector. Whether or not the fresnel messes things up depends on how severe it is within a couple of inches of the center of the projector. Fresnel lenses tend to get more severe farther away from the center of the element because there is more angle correction to make. Rather than replace the entire lens, I may be able to sand and polish the fresnel lines out of a 2-3" circle centered on each burner, or cut out just that part of the lens and replace it with formed PC.

Replaced my halogen headlight bulbs with H4 LED units Sat evening after a 300-mile joy ride. Replaced all the turn sig bulbs with LEDs, too. They were ezpz.

The first headlight bulb took about an hour to install, the second was 20 min, tops. Didn't have to cuss the dog or kick the cat on either one, really. The pinch points on the harness to bulb connector took some time to figure out (pics below), and the spring-wire retainer that holds the bulb in the reflector took some time to cogitate correctly for removing and re-installing (pics, too).

For the infamous "tabs", I just used my BMW tool kit chrome plated lineman pliers to trim off the two out-of-place tabs. EZPZ. Then, if you are very neat, and I know that you are, you can trim the edge of the mount. Your pocket knife works well if it is very sharp, and I know that yours is, to trim it so's you can't even tell they were there. See Pics.

Remove the mounting ring from the bulb before attempting to install anything. Install just the mount ring first, then the spring-wire retainer, then install the bulb. AMHIK.

It looks to me like Honda designed the rubber dust cover with a fan-cooled LED bulb in mind with the hole in the dust cover for the rear of the bulb (or LED fan). Everything went together perfectly in the end. (Had to cut holes in the beemer dust covers)

All the pics can be seen here:

These are the locking tabs, (one each side) on the wiring harness connector to the H4 bulb. It is necessary to squeeze them very hard to remove the connector from the bulb. They are either side of the wire entrance.

This is the spring wire retainer on the rear of the OEM H4 halogen bulb. Its necessary to push in and sideways on the "U" (mid upper right) to release the retainer. It pivots back and out of the way, hinged inder the JIS (phillips) head screw lower left.
