H4 LED - 2018 Evitek, F2 replaces G6

I went back to old school H4s I’ve had nothing but problems.my first pair the LED’s burn’t out after 30 hours of running. My second pair, the one side shorted the high beam so only the high beam was on with low beam switched on the other side had low beam but went dark with the high beam switched on. The system functions properly with the H4s. Not pleased

I've got the Evitek G6s in all 4 of my ST1100s with quite a few miles and no problems at all so far.

+1. I'm at 3.5 years and 76k miles on my first set of LED headlights on my ST1100.

A good 2 seasons on my F2's now,,, and I would have to say no issues. The lighting is still great,,, and I also use the Kisan LED modulator,, (wired for low beam only). The fans started to sound a bit sketchy on warmup,,, about a season into use. Since the F2's were low cost,, I ordered a backup set, which is still sitting on the shelf. Since then,,, the cooling fans have quieted down,,, or at least I don't notice them anymore. I am very happy with the setup,,, cheers,,, CAt'

I'm still on the G6s which are working fine. I have some F2s for my car that I've got to install.

I just took advantage of Amazon Free Shipping and Free Returns. Ordered in 10 different LED combinations to try in my car. These are 9005/HB11 combo kits.

The newest LEDs are definitely an improvement!!

Prices ranged from $60 to $140.

I liked the $60 set until I learned I could fine tune the lamp position on the $120 set. That made the final decision on the winner.

Twice the price of what I wanted but the improvement is worth it. Hopefully they last as long as my halogens did.

OK, going to give LED a shot. Trying to go directly to Evitek, but Cindy doesn't seem to respond to my emails. I'd do Amazon, but not really sure what I'm buying since this stuff is all repackaged. Maybe yahoo emails are kicked back by firewall at Evitek?

I'm not an LED'er but saw these that might be of interest to those that are.
They're from Daytona, come in different K and the fan is inside the headlamp. I think the location ring seems very robust too.

Dumb question alert: My ST1300 looks like it has the two main bulbs (headlights) and two small bulbs on either side of the headlights - what are those called? And can I get LEDs for these small lights too?
Thanks, John

EDIT: Marker lights I think.

Yes you can get those smaller bulbs in LED. I think they refer to them as position lights in the service manual, but I usually just say marker lights so folks don't get confused.

I'm in the process of finally switching all the front LED's as we speak (type and read), You can see the position/marker lights I used below. I went with a LED triangle filament type with a glass cover but any will work. Just remember to get them the same color temperature as your other bulbs if you want them to look similar.

The 2nd photo is with just the switchback led's and clear lenses on the signals. The headlight in it was an h4 upgrade and the position lights incandescent, but are all being upgraded to LED now.

Thank you! I think it would look best to have all of those bulbs be LEDs, rather than half LED half Halogen.

If you swap the turn signals for LED you will have to replace your flasher relay or put in load resistors (I'd do the relay). If you don't you'll get a hyper flash rate.

If you replace the position lamps, note the size - length and diameter of the old ones and match the dimensions to the new ones. My VStrom required a short LED replacement and most of them were too long for that area in the headlight. I'm not sure about the available space inside the ST's headlamp. I like the contrast between the cool LED headlights and the warmer marker lamps on my ST.

Fair warning. Do not drop the marker lamp inside the headlight. If you do, you will make up new things to whisper under stress, and get creative on how to get the little bugger out. Hint - picking up the ST, turning it upside down and shaking is not very productive so don't try it.

Whatever you like best is whatever's best. I wanted some color on the front just for my own aesthetic preference.

The color of the position lights isn't ideal for me. It's too amber and not yellow enough. Away from the G6s they look yellow but next to them they don't. They're incandescent. One day I may find a suitable LED replacement. Seems most bulb purveyors provide color temps only for headlight bulbs and not any of the lesser automotive bulbs.

There's lots of length room for a longer bulb. In fact longer is good as it causes the led's to reflect better off the chrome reflectors. What you have to watch for is the width. If the bulb is too wide it just won't go in the bulb holder or thru the hole into the headlight housing. Try to keep the width about the same as the OEM sized bulb.

Here's what I did for the position lights. They are longer than the OEM and work fine. The LED's are in a filament arrangement in a triangle shape.

I didn't have the holder fully seated on the throttle side in the photo with the lights on. I had just set the headlight assembly on the bike to see how it looked.

Oh WOW, I like the position lights in bright white like that. Of the turn lights - they are white now - do they turn amber once the turn signal is activated?

Yes, they turn amber for direction signals or 4 way flashers.

You have to do 2 things - replace the stock amber lenses with white lenses & get what's called a switchback LED. They are both amber (for the turn signal) and white for the running light. You may need to check / decided if they are legal in your neck of the woods. Some require the running lights to be amber.

Like I said, using LED turn signal bulbs requires an electronic flasher unless you put load resistors in. I'd recommend the relay. You can get them on Amazon / Ebay for a few dollars.

Here's a video of how to and how it looks..

Sorry for taking this off topic from the headlight bulbs specifically.
