GPS Week Rollover April 2019 - May affect older (pre-2010) GPS devices

Had my '04 Garmin Quest-I (basically a StreetPilot derivate [emoji57]) out today...
Flawless; even the minor bug with OSM Maps in playing audio directions like 300 yards too early, seems to have cured...

... transmitted from a CAT S60 thing ...

So when I went for a ride yesterday, I was puzzled to see that my Magellan no longer knew what time it was. It was following the route okay,,, but the clock was way wrong. I knew that time is critical to gps function,,, so I did not understand how it still seemed to be functioning. Guess the next step is to pull it off the bike,, and plug it into my laptop, and see if there is an update available. Will post my results,, Cat'

So after testing a bunch on internet solutions,,, I obtained a software update from Magellan tech support. I had to buy a micro SD card to load it into my Roadmate 9600. But it did the trick,,, and the unit once again knows the time of day !! If anyone has the same model,, and would like the download link,,, just PM me and I will send it right along,,, Cat'

I did not read every post in this thread but, at least for Garmin devices (660 and 665 in my case), if you remove the battery thus powering down the GPS entirely after April 19th, when the device is powered up again, the date will be incorrect with the year being 1999.

However Garmin has developed a firmware update to correct the issue.

More information here.

I had checked my 660LM after the rollover date and the date was correct. Thought it was all good...until...a few days ago. Shows 1999 now. Thanks for heads up about the fix. Thought I was screwed as Garmin wouldn't bother with fixing it.

EDIT: Just performed the update. IT WORKED!

Out of curiosity and to maybe better document the event, did you power down you device after your initial check for dates? By power down I mean remove the battery from the device.

I have not removed the battery since I checked and it was correct. I loaded routes to it via cable which meant removing the back door.

OK, thanks for the feedback. On the Zumo Forum, the thought was that if you powered it down you would lose the current date. I cannot check now since I have loaded the updated software on both GPS devices.
