2023 Iron Butt Rally

It looks like the group photo bonus is at or near Oologah, OK. Or would that be the checkpoint? What time do they have to check in by?
I thought bonus checkpoints were only known by the staff and riders. Not released to the public till the end of each leg.
:confused1:

IBR scribe John Harrison posted the info about the group photo bonus on the site. I’m just speculating on the location. No special knowledge here as many will attest…;)

Is the checkpoint time (8pm-10pm) local or eastern?

Thanks

Not the checkpoint . . .

CHECKPOINT 1 INFORMATION –
Wednesday night, June 21, 2023, 8pm - 10 pm
Doubletree Warren Place
6110 S Yale Ave
Tulsa, Oklahoma

PS: The Rally hotel . . . has power! Hopefully roads are navigable in Tulsa to get to it.

Thanks Sadlsor. The farthest rider looks to be about 190 miles out, with 2 hours and 48 minutes before getting into penalty points. Looks like everyone should make it in time.

Back to the lost flag. Does the rider to took the flag (assuming he was going to find and return it to its rightful owner) get penalized?

Other than a tongue lashing, chastisement, stares that could kill and being humiliated and embarrassed in front of everyone . . . no. New rule for future IBRs will assign drastic penalties.

Not sure where I read it, but the rider who picked up the flag also apparently didn't follow the instructions of the Rally Master, adding fuel to the fire!

In today's or yesterday's update.
Today, John actually called out the offending 'good Samaritan' by name in his Scribe-ing.
With the public humiliation you mentioned, that name-dropping demonstrates how supremely perturbed the Rally staff was. The standard "I fouled up" moments are shared amongst the entrants as part of the game, but this act, well-intentioned as it was, is known to all, as a "given", and is going to be remembered in shame, I'm afraid. This scenario is mentioned particularly in the required mandatory New Rider briefings. It was a mistake that few riders have ever made -- if any. Chances are, a following rider would call in to the Rally Mistress to report a flag finding, but would never take it with them.
Can't say whether it's actually WRITTEN in the rulebook (I'll assume it is), but it is mentioned in order to avoid the specific results as happened here.

Checkpoint locations are public knowledge at this point (Tulsa and Denver area) but not any of the bonus locations including any group photos.

In other words, a malignant narcissist could simply shrug his shoulders, smile and carry on w/ no overt punishment.

I'm not aware that the "leave any flag you find alone" is captured anywhere in the rules . . . yet. It's always just been included in briefings . . . numerous times. Maybe in some of the instructions (that are not rules) somewhere, can't remember. The IBR rules are available on the IBR Home Page in the "Reference Section" if anyone wants to check them out.

kendoo - the IBR site has a section for Bonus Listings. It states the bonuses for the previous leg will be posted up after the start of the next one. We'll see.

And I don't see the name of the chagrined rally flag violator, I've looked through the list four times.
His name was mentioned in the last update. Well, last update as I write this... we should see the lighter side of the goings-on sometime today, as the staff transits to the next checkpoint.

Thanks Sadlsor . . . you beat me to it.

As to Dan Duvall . . . number 18 in the Leg 1 standings . . .
