2014 Honda CTX1300

Re: ctx 1300

And the handlebars feel like a tiller. A lot of pull back.

Re: ctx 1300

I think I'm beginning to like this one. Prefer a taller shield up front but not to look through. Seat height is lower (like that). Gas tank under the seat (like that too). Only 5.1 gal, about the same as my old GL1500 (would prefer more but it's OK). Reminds me a lot of my GL1500 in seating position. The only flaw in seating with feet slightly forward of where they are on either ST is that lower back issue. I used to ride a V twin cruiser with forward controls, for a very short time. This was really bad on my back for any time in the seat. My GW was much better but still needed an accessory back rest in the small of my back for rides longer than 100 miles. This has a longer wheel base, longer than a ST1300, and even longer than my ST1100 (like that). I prefer touring more than sport riding and this bike looks like it would fit that just fine. With all that has been mentioned that is missing I can see a very large after market for this one. Now, where will I put my GPS? That is after I win the lotto or otherwise receive some windfall disposable income to buy it, and then start adding stuff to it.

(aux power, air horns, top case (maybe or maybe not), hitch to pull my camper (will have to be custom made), even more LED lights on back and up front, maybe an after market slightly taller windshield for more wind deflection (3"?), etc.)

Re: ctx 1300

Somebody finally cut to the chase on this thing.

-1. More than a couple people like the looks. As I've said a few times now with a taller windshield this bike would make a different impression on a lot of people. Haters will still hate. That can't be helped. IMNSHO, it's a nice looking bike. YMMV.

Re: ctx 1300

I think it was said that it had different performance numbers?
First farkle should be a used ST ECM?
It's all in the box?

You should probably wait until riding one. The performance may affect sport-bike types but I wonder if sport-touring types will be hampered. I believe the gearing is different so the box won't help that. Apparently the grunt is shifted to the low end and cruising speeds see less RPM.

Some people need 100+ mph for commuting and fun but I think the CTX will surprise a lot of people. The only problem I'd have with one is the handle-bars. Riding with a Gen 3 Helibar riser didn't bother me a bit. But those bar-back bars are too far back. Can't wait to take a test ride.

Re: ctx 1300

It's not for me. I sat on one at a local dealership and I could tell that the forward pegs were going to put too much strain on my lower back. I used to own a Suzuki VS800 Intruder (great bike) that had nearly the same ergonomics, and I could ride it for about 45 minutes before I had to climb off and take a break. Not being able to take shocks from the road with my legs just kills my back after a while.

Re: ctx 1300

This thing screams DN01 and I didn't have the stomach for that either.........:puk1:
Nice motor though!!

Re: ctx 1300

I'd be surprised if there are not aftermarket windshields and handlebars really soon. I totally disagree about the disagreeable looks of this one. I happen to be one who is liking it more, the more I look at it. Haven't had a chance to sit on one though. I do see it to be very similar to my old GW for ergonomics and that was doable after a few tweaks. I really didn't care for the looks of the ST1300 at first, even after I bought my ST1100. But that has also grown on me. I really didn't like the GL1800 styling when they first came out but those also are nice bikes to me now. Give it a chance. Before I bought my ST1100 I test rode a c14 and the dealer had tiller bars on that. But in that case the bars were really wide and really far forward so I was almost laying on the tank. Really bad ergonomics for an average rider, designed for a long armed rider, which I am not. I'll have to sit on one to be sure how much I like it... or not before I can finalize my opinion. I know a lot of cruiser riders who think any ST is plug ugly. But what do I care what they think. It's all a matter of perspective.

Re: ctx 1300

As I read through the specs the CTX 1300 tipped the scales toward a cruiser market. Not my cup of tea. I'd like to see the VFR1200T developed (at least Honda filed the patents in October). My likes lean more to the FJR1300ES and new water cooled BMW RT1200. Lighter and somewhat sporty with a more sit-up ride than sport bikes. Its a sport touring bike for me.

Re: ctx 1300

You know it's really gotta be something special when there is such division of opinion. Not saying good or bad but usually the really special stuff causes people to hate or love it, and very few undecided. Either way Honda succeeded in eliciting passion about it! :chatter:

Re: ctx 1300

The price for the Deluxe CT13 is showing up on Craig's List as just under $20k in Canada. We are not getting the base model, apparently.

Re: ctx 1300

Did a google search using the terms "craigslist.org: ctx1300" and found some results with prices already. Actually the first result is some dealer in Honolulu that doesn't know the difference between a 2011 Honda Fury VT1300 CX and a CTX1300 (new model). The next 3 results are from Slidell, LA (2 results), and Rockwall, TX. It is the basic model priced at $15999.

Also found another result from Cycle Trader that shows Horner Honda in Salisbury, MD has a CTX1300D (deluxe) listed for $17499 (SRP) and the CTX1300 (basic) listed for $15999 (SRP). Looks like those should be about what to expect for pricing when it officially shows up at the dealers.

That proves it's not the ST1300 replacement. If it were it be over $20K.

Re: ctx 1300

This, from my source inside Honda:

"I can tell you the CTX1300 is not intended to be an ST1300 replacement."

Since he is forbidden to divulge anything that is not condoned by Mother Honda, we can consider it official that the CTX1300 does not replace the ST1300. As far as when an actual ST replacement will come out, he cannot say.
