self contained tire pumps

Do any of you folks have any experience with the small self-powered tire inflators, like the Fanttik models

Do they work? Are they convenient? Worth it?
I have had one for 4 years and just upgraded to fanttik pump. The old one was bigger than the new one but made less noise.

If anybody is buying a new compressor for their bike (or has one but has not used it) I strongly suggest you deflate a tire while you are at home, and then use the compressor to pump it up to riding pressure. You might find your fuse blows or the compressor does not work. Any problems can be easily resolved at home, maybe not so easily at the side of a road.

I have an Airmoto like the one in the video. I use it for topping off my motorcycle & bicycle tires. For this purpose I prefer it over my 120v 125 psi garage compressor and the 12v portables in each bike. It might not inflate a car tire quickly but I don't use it for that. It adds up to 15 lbs in what I guess to be about 1 or 2 minutes.
So Dave you dont carry it on the bikes, only use it at home? That would defeat the purpose of buying one for me. I dont mind using my compressor at home.

That's the smaller X9 in the photo. The Fanttik's are supposed to be very decent kit.

I just picked up one from Costco last night, the S100 Apex.

It's supposed to be identical to the X8 Apex, except it doesn't have the yellow stripe.

They are the big brothers to the X9 pro.

Costco's S100 is about $80 less compared to Amazon.ca X8 and $30 less than Amazon.ca's X9.

I haven't even unboxed mine yet, but there are reviews online of the S100 by some Goldwing riders as well as others.

What I've seen some recommend, is to upgrade the screw on hose to a locking quick connect.

Edit, the hose connects to the unit with a standard Schrader thread 0.305" x 32TPI, so any hose with that will work. Fanttik also makes a 20" hose for around $25

Obo.... would you be so kind as to report back in after unboxing and testing? Maybe take a tire down to 25# in your garage and blow it up to 42 using the unit and let us know how it goes.

one report I read said they had a 1 year warranty and " should at least last that long" lol

The feature I am looking for stateside is the no-loss-of-pressure chuck like the Bikersdream.

I have bought these 90 deg. Jaco air chucks and put them on all my tire fillers. These work really well and just slip on the tire valve and one push of the button and it pops off with no pressure loss.

I used to ride all over the country with basically no tools that didnt come in the mc tool kit. Now at a soon to be 75, I bought a Noco jump starter and thinking about a self charging tire inflator because Ive been stranded lately with a dead battery and found I was too old/ weak to bump start my bike by myself anymore, and am worried about getting a flat and my mini 12 v air compressor blowing a fuse or something and leaving me stranded. Heaven forbid I drop the darn thing! It's heck to get old, frail and afraid!

I unboxed it today, forgot it also has an LED light and double as a charging brick. Seems solid and decent enough.
I'd seen that comparison video in the past, noting that many do not have the batteries / power stated in the online ads. Fanttic is "supposed" to be a bit better.
Manual says battery will run 40 mins from full charge, no load, at 25C. Heavy loads and cold temps will decrease the run time.
Working temp 0-45C, storage temps -10c to 45C, battery capacity 11.1v/28.86Wh, sound 80dB, usbc input charge 5v/3A, usba output 5v/2A

Charged it and powered it on inside, forgetting that it's loud. Startled me for sure.

We're headed out of town first thing in the AM for 4-5 days or so, so it'll have to give it a go when I get back.

Hate to say it, but the good old foot pump can't be beat for simplicity and no power needed.. other than a leg workout!

Each of my road bikes has a 12v compressor packed all the time which serves on the road. This portable was a gift, otherwise I’d just use the 120v compressor at home however the battery powered one has been more convenient. Sometimes I’d have to shuffle bikes to reach one with the 120v compressor hose.

Except the weight and space requirements...

My Xiaomi is about the size of a (proper) laptop power supply...
We carry a multi port USB charger for the phones (and the Sena helmet kits) anyway, so recharging the compressor is no issue...
I tested it on the panel van, raising all 4 (rather large) tires from 2.8bar/40psi to 3.0bar/43psi and it held up well...
No issues topping off the tires of both bikes when on tour, but I always keep it charged in case I need it during a slime/worm repair...

@ST1100Y true, but there's a lot less moving and no electrical parts in a foot pump. I'd have said one of the small manual bicycle pumps, but who's got time to flex the arms that way!

@Obo got a bicycle pump with gauge in the shop...
Friend's 80ies Kawa has air supported front forks... those things are way to fragile for trying to charge by compressor ;)

Filling a deflated rear motorcycle tire from zero to 46psi with a conventional bicycle pump while wearing stitches will be quite a workout though... :roflmao:

I'd rather use a thing like zis:

Ditto, just another reason getting old sucks.

I bought one on Amazon last year. It has worked flawlessly ever since. .

I bought this little pump/power bank for my Xmas gift to myself only $42, and now it's even cheaper at $30. Cant say if it beats everything else, but its been fine with topping up tires so far. It does have the screw on hose which everyone hates though.

For a right angle adapter, autozone has cheap ones for $7. They aren't zero loss, but I think that's easily compensated for by adding an extra 0.5 psi to the target if you want. I have found that some inflators have an insert that don't let you screw this on tight enough to seal. I solved that by drilling the adapter hose end out another size.

EDIT: I will say that these kind of tools, I'm hesitant to rely on battery power...you don't usually need them, but when you do you NEED them to work. And over time the batteries in these always go bad, esp the El Cheapos like the one I have. I mean, who knows what the quality of the battery is in it? Thus, it has not replaced the 12V socket-powered one I carry just yet even though it is half the size. It works as it should, but the jury is still out and could be out forever.
