Do any of you folks have any experience with the small self-powered tire inflators, like the Fanttik models

Do they work? Are they convenient? Worth it?

I bought an Alpha Digital A23v jump starter/compressor in Nov.

It made sense to me to carry one device that does two chores.

It was $60 on Woot. So far, it has performed both functions well.

That's the smaller X9 in the photo. The Fanttik's are supposed to be very decent kit.

I just picked up one from Costco last night, the S100 Apex.

It's supposed to be identical to the X8 Apex, except it doesn't have the yellow stripe.

They are the big brothers to the X9 pro.

Costco's S100 is about $80 less compared to Amazon.ca X8 and $30 less than Amazon.ca's X9.

I haven't even unboxed mine yet, but there are reviews online of the S100 by some Goldwing riders as well as others.

What I've seen some recommend, is to upgrade the screw on hose to a locking quick connect.

Edit, the hose connects to the unit with a standard Schrader thread 0.305" x 32TPI, so any hose with that will work. Fanttik also makes a 20" hose for around $25

I bought this a couple years ago, but it stopped working after a few times. Don't know if they are any better now.

Got me that, pretty similar looking Xiaomi Portable Electric Air Compressor and learned love that little critter...
Very convenient for topping up the inflation on the campground or B&B parking lot...
I have however upgraded it with the very well designed Bikersdream Schrader Adapter, which enables attachment without any pressure loss...

well packed in the designated pouch:

The bikersdream looks like a great item, but Amazon says it cannot be delivered to my address (USA) using your link. And logging on to Amazon and doing a search for that brand and specific item shows up as out of stock and unavailable.

Ditto. Anybody know of an equivalent adapter available on this side of the pond? TIA

John

I got the same message in that link.

I do have the Dynaplug tire repair kit, but just wondering if an independent air compressor unit would be beneficial as compared to the Dynaplug model

Be careful about using that 90 degree valve stem extender. In fact do NOT put it on a rubber valve stem other than for temporary putting air in a tire and then remove it before you drive.

Somewhere on YouTube there is a video that someone made that compared quite a few of these little rechargeable self contained compressors. There was a huge difference between different models as far as battery life and how fast they could fill a tire. Some were almost unusable and others worked fairly well.

yes it's just for an emergency when the tire I'm repairing doesn't have it's own 45/80/90 degrees valve stem, like my wife's XMax scooter for example, that is nearly impossible to get to the straight valve stem on the tiny scooter wheels.

I have an Airmoto like the one in the video. I use it for topping off my motorcycle & bicycle tires. For this purpose I prefer it over my 120v 125 psi garage compressor and the 12v portables in each bike. It might not inflate a car tire quickly but I don't use it for that. It adds up to 15 lbs in what I guess to be about 1 or 2 minutes.

I have the Airmoto as well- to me, very useful for a few PSI to bring the tire up prior to a ride- not sure if it would work well if the tire was completely deflated. I usually also carry an electric one (runs off the SAE battery connector) in the kit I have as well as 3 different tire plug kits. The Airmoto is much better than using a manual bicycle pump (as I’ve done in the past) for that few PSI.

This isn't "self-contained" but it's a very small and powerful 12 V corded pump that a friend used, and I watched.

It was amazingly fast & efficient.

Kinda pricy, it's something like $190,
but it is made in America.
