Where did you ride today?

A little lap around the back yard on the new scoot.

Yesterday, I headed out to the North Cascades Highway with James (jtvisions). The decision to go there or to the Puget Sound beaches boiled down to how much smoke we thought we'd hit. In the end, we decided to take our chances and brave the smoke from the forest fires.

Our leaves are changing, but we're not as far along as what other parts of the country are seeing.

The smoke really cut down the view of the mountains.

This is what you can't see.

But once we got over the first of the passes, the sky cleared. It's like the smoke was being held in place by the mountains in the east and pushed up there by the onshore breezes coming from the west.

Is that a nuclear bomb, spare gas tank, or mini propane tank on the back of your bike? Interesting, can't say I've ever seen anything quite like it. :)
I've seen extended fuel tanks like that before. How do you have it feeding to the main tank?
its my extended fuel tank it has its own petcock and it gravity feeds into the main tank so the fuel gauge is always right. don't ask how much range it adds cause i've never tried to find out

I've been trying to wear out my K1600 B's Pilot Road rear tire that has 13,000 miles on it so I'll have a fresh tire for a November ride to California. Can't seem to do it so I rode up to a fantastic BMW rally in southern Virginia (BMW Colonial Rally at Wakefield). Had a great time, fantastic weather, camping, people, and location.

At 13,000 miles ...

I saw a post this morning on Facebook about an old Air strip that I never knew existed.

From Facebook: "Dahio airport, 7 miles west of Dayton in Montgomery County. From research it was built in the early 1940’s by the Army Air Corp as a backup refueling stop.
While still there today, it is for the most part abondoned. Light plane enthusiasts do still use the runway for practice and pleasure.
On the day I was there the runway was being used by a light experimental plane. From 1956 to 1960, along with being an airport it was also used by the Montgomery County Timing Association as a drag strip for automotive racing. It was a National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) sanctioned track and staffed by members of local car clubs.
Drag racers in the early era of the sport that used the track included, 60’s star Gordon Collett, “Ohio” George Montgomery, Connie Kalitta, and Jeg Couglin Sr.
Pressure from local residents opposed to the noise and the fact that the timing equipment was stolen in 1960 led to the end of racing at the airport."

So I jumped on the bike and went exploring.
