Where did you ride today?

Brain was a little foggy this morning (so I got up late)....Wilson girls were gone from an overnight stay.....wife said I was Heartless and I didn't have the courage to argue....so I went for a ride to see the Wizard of Oz....Followed the yellow brick road through some apple orchards until I saw the Twisted Sisters' taco stand owned by three witches (it is Taco Tuesday!) but when I pulled in the witches' pets (they looked like flying Monkees) started throwing rotten apples at me...."I'm not going to take this, no I'm not going to take this, I'm not going to take this anymore" so I rode on....pulled in at the Wizard's office but his receptionist Dorothy said the wiz was out for the day and all she wanted to do was sell me Toto....didn't feel like driving through the rains in Africa to get them so kicked some dust on her ruby slippers and headed for home....Riding is good therapy and soon my brain, heart, and courage were restored to normal levels  There's no place like home!! Russ. (107 miles today)....

There was a high wind warning forecast for today in Kansas so I hit the road 4:50 am when it was still under 30 mph. My brother said the max gust today was 58 mph. A might windy even for Kansas.

So I combined two days travel into one. 815 miles and I’m ready to hit the tent!

7 more Mixzippy courthouse today. Grand finale tomorrow.

Washed the bike today so...............you guessed it!!?? ........10 mile ride and it started raining......Russ.

I’ll bet a nickel I’m the only forum member out camping tonight. Anyone else out? It currently 76 and it should dip clear down to 72 by sunrise.

Slidell free campsite by the swamp tour boats.

A fellow that I have ridden with a lot over the years passed away last Saturday after a short battle with cancer. I am looking after selling his bike and gear for his widow. Picked the bike up today and we went for a ride before I winterize it.
We rode to one one of his favorite RTE for lunch and some remembering of the good times we had.

So....if anyone wants a low mileage, 2012, ST in very good condition, get in touch with me.

I went for what might be one of the last rides this season. The main reason was to get the next ON A to Z, but I took a very round-about way to get there and hit up as many of my favourite roads along the way. The photo makes it look nice, but it was a very windy 10C (50F) and that wind was from the northwest and cold.

A nice part about being retired is you can ride when you want to. Earlier in the week, I noticed the forecast for Friday was 60F and only cloudy. No rain. So when I woke up Friday morning and saw it still was good, I looked to see what was feasible with fewer hours of daylight. (During the winter in the Pacific Northwet, we don't call it "sun"light. We don't see the sun. But there is still a brighter spot in the sky, so it is "day"light. :D )

I took a route that led me along back roads up to Anacortes, WA and then to Bowman Bay.

Bowman Bay.

Deception Pass is just on the other side of that low area between the hill on the left and the one on the right.

It's hard to see in this picture, but the "Sound of Freedom" was playing with about 6 F-18s flying around in the area. If you look closely above the island, you'll see one.

Then on to Deception Pass and Whidbey Island
From Wikipedia regarding Deception Pass:
Currents
Deception Pass is a dramatic seascape where the tidal flow and whirlpools beneath the twin bridges connecting Fidalgo Island to Whidbey Island move quickly. During ebb and flood tide current speed reaches about 8 knots (9.2 mph), flowing in opposite directions between ebb and flood.[9] This swift current can lead to standing waves, large whirlpools, and roiling eddies. This swift current phenomenon can be viewed from the twin bridges' pedestrian walkways or from the trail leading below the larger south bridge from the parking lot on the Whidbey Island side. Boats can be seen waiting on either side of the pass for the current to stop or change direction before going through. Thrill-seeking kayakers go there during large tide changes to surf the standing waves and brave the class 2 and 3 rapid conditions.

Once on Whidbey Island, I headed to Libby Beach.

And then the ride home. I saw a herd of deer in one of the properties as I rode out and back home. It was a reminder that I needed to get back before they started wandering about.

I got out and did a nice slow loop here in Texas Hill Country from Kerrville to Medina to Vanderpool and then to Utopia. Returned from Utopia to Bandera, back to Medina and on to Kerrville.

Not sure how far that was or how long the ride was. Just out enjoying a beautiful Fall day and never got off the bike.

Got out this morning for a ride to Damascus House. Two trees down that I saw, but lots elsewhere. Had to turn around at one point and find a different route. Lots of debris on the road. Over half a million without power. The winds came in from the east, which never happens with strong winds here. It's always the south and occasionally the north.

But...it was otherwise a good day for a ride.
