Where did you ride today?

Much stranger and more difficult endeavors have been attempted in history, than riding a motorbike to Prudhoe Bay.
Nothing puts your motorcycle riding goal or endeavor into perspective better than passing some brightly dressed clown apparel wearing, 60 year old yahoo, flying a little orange flag, in the middle of nowhere... riding a bicycle. ;)

Yeah, I can see how that might happen to minimize your struggle on the AlCan or the Dalton.
Did you get a picture...?
Was he riding on street tires, or knobbies?
Keith wants to know.

Raymond, Bob, and I did meet a couple who quit their bicycle dream trip near Destruction Bay. They were trying to hitch a ride south to Haines Junction, after spending the night in a tree, while a bear occupied their tent. Raymond wanted to take a picture of the crying female but Bob (Old Guy) told him it wasn't appropriate. :well1:

But but she was barely crying. I thought it was from that 28 oz half used can of bear spray she had. The guy was much more sharing with the details than she was.

That was a fun trip and the grand ol Denali came out of the clouds for us several times on that trip. Right over the GPS in this pic taken from way up near Fairbanks.

I have travelled a lot of places in the world but had not seen our north country. Something I wanted to see, and combining it with a ride is a great way to do it. Fortunately I am flexible with time and delays and changes are not a big issue. Could do without some issues but it is what it is. The ferry across the Mackenzie river is down now but hopefully we can get out of Inuvik tomorrow.
Being as how it is the only way of of here, altering the route is not an option. Sure we could have stuck to a paved route and I am fine with those that do. Fortunately not everyone is of the same mindset. It would be pretty boring if we were. We knew before we left that the risk of things like this was relatively high. Acceptable to me but maybe not everyone.

Our delay has not been without an upside. We have met a lot of really nice people and have been offered help and have helped others.

All in all, I will look back and be glad of it all. Well, not all. I could do without the hummingbird sized mosquitoes

I have attached a pic. Behind the sign is a large mound. It is called a "pingo". Interesting geologic formation of permafrost and ice. Common in high arctic. IMG_20240703_125031483.jpg

BAMA!!! I rode up to BAMA! I hit the only road around here that requires any lean at all to ride. BAMA 41 north of Monroeville. I saw the one and only (for real) General Lee in Flomaton AL. at a firecrack stand that was still open today. It looked like a pretty good to the details copy of the actual car and is probably worth more than the firecrack store it sits in front of on holidays.

Next stop was a pic in front of the "old" cola sign in Burnt Corn BAMA. First time I looked so close to see the sign was signed by the painter in 97. I took the long way home over through Atmore. Traffic was terrible going north out of Pensacola and about all of them had a TN or GA tag. They were all leaving the beach a bit red I think.

I'll also throw a pic in here of why we don't go to the beach on holiday weekends. The beach pic is the normally quiet Navarre beach yesterday. It's where I suggest most visit as it's less crowded than Pensacola beach but it was sure packed this holiday.

I've only looked at my bikes, since near the end of April, when Justin and I rode them up to Bryce Canyon & ZION NP, so I decided I needed to take the 2012 :dr13:, for a little spin and get some gas in it. As I was riding the one HWY I always take, I was approaching my right turn, when I started watching the vehicles coming from the left and completely passed my turn! :doh1:

The thought came to me that sometimes things happen for a reason... really?

So I rode an extra 14 miles south, where the HWY, I was on met up with the I15 freeway, where I turned north and took the freeway back to where I missed my turn. I then rode a old farm road (well paved) over to SR56, then to a Chevron Station, where they sell "Marine Gas", 92octain with no corn syrup.

After the gas station, I started down my normal route home when I came across a Police road block. And there was a bunch of cops there! :law1:

I could see if I rode through the Home Depot parking lot, I could get around it and get home.

Due to my missing my turn, it became a 51 mile ride! :thumb:

I'm not exactly sure what all happened where the road was block, but the word out was that there was a shooting. And according to the same info, it might have been self-inflicted.

i was determined to reach the 1000km mark this morning

I rode out east and did a loop around and into Eglin AFB. Stopped at one of the old fire lookout towers and snapped a pic.

The old Ramer fire tower.

Edits: Ha it finally worked. I uploaded another pic to google maps.

I uploaded another pic to Google maps today. Hopefully the link works here. 414 miles in 88 to 98 temps.
