What would you replace the ST1300 with?

Kind of in the same boat. I have been away from riding for a number of years after a bad back injury.
Retiring soon and have been looking to get back into riding. I have always loved the ST1300.
I will be 61 this year and I am really starting to wonder if I want to wrestle with a 700lb motorcycle.
I am also looking at the Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX, the Suzuki GSX-S1000GT, Ducati Multistrada 1200 (2015+), and the BMW S1000XR.

I haven't ruled out the ST1300, but it is a close race :)

I was looking at Ninja 1000SX but the reviews are it’s boring. Have been thinking Vstrom 650 since it’s an all rounder and can do dirt roads too. A bit lighter. Might add this to my stable at some point!

No argument that the ST1300 was ahead of it's time. Honda simply felt that the sport bike market was to small or unprofitable to pursue, and let BMW capture the market. My 2004 ST had about 65K on the odometer, and was still running and handling with anything out there. ( it ended up in a ditch in SE Ohio).
BMW brought German technology to the mass market: suspension and performance modes/keyless convenience/shaft drive/ digital dash/ and on and on. I would now be riding an ST 1500 if Honda had decided to make it.

The Kawi 1000 engine vibrates badly about 4500rpm..I couldn't own one for that reason. Picked up a used '19 Super Tenere a few weeks back. I had a '14 that I bought new and kept for a couple of years. They are a good solid bike. Not exciting but does everything well and is very comfortable. I think Yamaha has just the right amount of tech (for me anyway) on the Super Tenere and FJR. I have an MT-10SP if I want exciting but to be honest I putt around on it like an old man. Have 9000 miles on the NC750X and it's the little bike that could.

I test rode a bunch of bikes and decided to keep my STella. Can’t imagine a better road companion. If she suddenly developed cruise control and Russell Day Long seat I wouldn’t complain a bit.

I can stand the stock saddle, but IF the 1300 was missing anything, to me it's the cruise control.

But once again, every bike I've ever owned or read about, sacrifices something fit something else.

Still, and all, Honda shoulda added cruise to the best bike of its day, the ST1300.

Go with the XR. You'll love it.
You might want to look at the F900 XR as well. One YT review said that if the 900 had been out when the S1000XR had come out, he'd have bought it instead. You do without some of the bells and whistles of the S1000XR, but you may find you don't care about them. For a day to day driver, or one to take touring, it is pretty decent.

And at less than 500 lbs, I never worry about where I park at. Even headed downhill, there's no problem to back out.

I've not had a stock seat on the ST's that I've owned. They've always been the boat anchor heavy Corbins. I do have a stock saddle on my Blackbird and that's a real butt-burner. I imagine the stock ST saddle would be very similar.

No cruise control on the ST1300 is a head-scratcher for sure. I have a throttle lock on my ST1100 but the throttle still creeps. So....worthless.
