Wednesday January 22nd Café.

Keith, glad to see you made it to your first leg of the trip. Hope the rest goesFlamingos!

Thanks Bob, and greetings to everyone from Bangkok, where we arrived 20 minutes early after another perfect flight.

Now (1045 local time on Thursday 23 January) we're cooling our heels and enjoying delicious strawberry smoothies while waiting for our charming cottage style hotel to be ready for us. We both need showers and a change of clothes, and maybe naps.

That may mean we really don't see much beyond the courtyard of the hotel, but so be it. Our primary reason for being here, today, was as a buffer in the event of a travel glitch, and for jet lag recovery. Sightseeing would be a bonus.

The air quality here is even worse than Istanbul: in full daylight I couldn't see a half mile. Some of that is undoubtedly humidity-induced haze but probably not all of it.

Life is good.

Good evening, probably the wrong place for my posting, but got my Mike Corbin seat back together tonight. Bit of a physical challenge as I added about a 1/2 inch of high density closed cellular foam. Forgot that it would take up some side material. Any way should last till I get a Russell day long made IMG_6402.jpgIMG_6398.jpg

Oh, and look what I got my hot hands a hold of...wind deflectors for the 1100! Probably overpaid but I had to ship them from the UK. Now to see if I can replicate them, or at least make some reasonable and functional facsimiles!
There will be definite interest for the side reflectors... for sure...
The issue is if you could make them hollow like the original, or need a solid core for achieving the integrity required...

Initial thought was solid but with infill to lighten them. They'll have to be made in pieces as my machine isn't large enough to do it as a whole. But maybe design them to have the lower part removable (at the ankle bend)...I dunno, still ruminating over it. I'd love suggestions (not here, just send PM).

Funny story, one of my roommates in undergrad was in a band that competed in a battle of bands contest. I think they beat what was to become the Tragically Hip. I know they definitely competed in the same contest.

Here they are posing with Flora MacDonald who was a federal politician and cabinet minister:

They opened for Rush in Toronto one time, I think at the Gardens.
We arrived late and missed some of the opening as they were not well known at the time.
Pity that, now.

I think the final televised concert was seen by 11.7 million people, which when you consider the population of the whole country at the time was about 36 million, is pretty impressive.
