Wednesday January 22nd Café.

Morning all! Dark and too early. It's currently 0c right now with a predicted high of 5C and some sun. Almost identical to yesterday though it certainly got a little warmer than 5C yesterday, after the ride in of course, that was chilly. The ride home was much more pleasant.

Good luck with the hip surgery John! Patty, my first shingles shot went just fine, no side effects whatsoever, hopefully it will be the same for you.

The first day of OHS training went ok yesterday, I didn't want to end my existence and there were parts that were interesting. The two guys running the training did a pretty good job of moving things along and keeping it entertaining. It's interesting the collection of personalities that you get in these training sessions; there was one participant who is a jokey talker but he quieted down fairly quickly so he lived to survive to today while another woman felt the need to overshare with tangential personal anecdotes. Still, all in all, it was not a coma inducing bore-athon from hell, which is indeed high praise in the weasel lexicon.

Hope everyone has a great day and remember if you slip and fall, it might require a new hip!

14/-13 in SoMD...balmy compared to most of y'all. Still slaps me like an ice cold hand just opening the door to let the dogs out. Quick cup o joe (thank you!!!) then I'm off to the office.

If you can stand it and skies are clear, look up tonight and catch a glimpse of the planets. Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Venus are pretty noticeable. Uranus (near Jupiter) and Neptune (near Venus) will need telescopes, but to at least peer at them is pretty wondrous. And a nice, warm cup of hot choc or Italian roast helps too!

"Coffee, the favorite drink of the civilized world." Hah! Coffee is the REASON for this civilized world...well at least more civilized.

Oh, and look what I got my hot hands a hold of...wind deflectors for the 1100! Probably overpaid but I had to ship them from the UK. Now to see if I can replicate them, or at least make some reasonable and functional facsimiles!

Good luck John, and safe travels Keith!
Take care y'all!

All this weather talk is boring, so in that vein all the snow forecasted shifted from my area all the way down to the Gulf Coast. For those unfamiliar with this geographic paradise, it's at the northern land boundaries of the Gulf of America. :roflmao-2x: Saw a picture of a Florida alligator with snow all over him, and I understand he was saying "This is bullsh!t" So anyway, it's 10 or 12 degrees out this morning, and the below-freezing air hurts my eyeballs. Roads here are clear due to no moisture, but I ain't going to try to jump on the Coldest Ride list.

That's good civilized coffee there, Ray, and it's good to know someone is still striving for world peace in these crazy times.

John, make sure the slicers measure twice (or more) and cut ONCE. Just remember to tell them before they give you the anesthesia. Still can't imagine hospitals replacing such a basic support structure to our body, and kick you out the same day. Good news is, most patients report vastly "better than before", but it depends on how seriously you take the required PT to get it all working again. Prayers up for a quick recovery.

The shingles shots are on my better-do-it-sooner-than-later list, so I'm going to depend on Patty to provide the ups and downs.

Other than that, just another day in the life. Still beats the alternative, for now.

There will always be someone who can't see your worth. Don't let it be you.

You might want to work on the Austrian Tourist Board information a little before it's published.
You can wolve that down by the bucket... all yours...

Good evening everyone

Thanks for the start, Ray.

Good luck with the hip procedure, John.

It's 53°F here in Istanbul, where our eastward travel paused for about 6 hours. Lest you feel pity for me (why would you) I can assure you that the Turkish Airlines Business Class lounge is a very pleasant sanctum in which to while away the time. Limitless food, comfy and pleasant surroundings, a golf simulator, and other pleasant diversions have made this an enjoyable stop.

It's very hazy outside, like Los Angeles smog mixed with wildfire smoke. Looking out the terminal window, ground-level visibility in the twilight (it's 1815 hours local time) is maybe a half mile.

From my window on approach, midafternoon.

I don't know if that's the norm or the result of some aberration so I can't pass judgment, only report what I'm seeing.

We'll be in Bangkok by tomorrow morning but I won't report in before evening since there's an 11 or 12 hour time difference between there and home.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them.

It warmed up overnight. I have no idea how that works.

But, it is 24* currently and the furnace is starting to actually turn off. This old house is difficult to keep under control but the last two years we have made big changes that have helped keep this place from getting too cold.

The biggest help is in the heat pump (mini-split). We also have direct vented natural gas heaters in three areas as these are add-ons to the house and the house furnace doesn't know anything about these areas ... either do the ghosts.

The dog will get a walk later today. Until then he's just going to stare at me. He goes home tomorrow.

You cats be safe and enjoy a little weather break if you get it.

Weather, bacon bits, super cold.......... Quite the mix this morning.

Thanks and good morning all.........

Off for another day of sliding on two boards in the sunshine for me today.
Hope all you training attending working stiffs have a good day.......if not......think of this...

Morning Ray & All from sunny, Southern Utah!

Currently it is 26F, up from 11F and heading for 41F. No breeze yet, but later the winds will be out of the NNE @ 15 to 29mph.

John, good luck on the hip operation! Hope you heal fast!

Keith, glad to see you made it to your first leg of the trip. Hope the rest goes as well!

WE HAD HEAT this morning! One thing, it didn't get as low, and I'm hoping my fix will keep it from repeating the problem!

Today, I get to take Chris's Highlander down to fill it up and get it washed and I'll be cleaning out the insides for our trip to Las Vegas this Friday. My #2 son and GF are flying in, so we'll meet them at the airport and take them to their hotel, then go check into our OVERPRICED hotel. Then go have dinner with them and see them the next morning for breakfast, before we turn around and come back home on Saturday.

Boiled eggs, bacon, toast & OJ to start the morning. Pepsi(s) to come later.

Anyone :bl13:, have a great day on the roads, as long as they aren't icy! :hat3:
