The Paulcb Memorial Coldest Ride, Winter 2024-2025

Good night, we haven't gotten rid of the snow from the last 2 snow events and right now it's snowing again. According to the news we are in #9 place of our snowiest winters of recorded weather

This won't put me at the top but it will put me back on the list! ;)
20F this morning when I left the Holler for 280+ miles -

Heated gloves, heated jacket, heated grips ... and I wished I'd put in my heated insoles as my toes get a bit frosty!

Looks like +20 degreez, not -20.

But that's still good!

I took my cage to a Christian motorcyclists' association breakfast because it was only 27° at dawn and I just didn't feel like riding in that today.

But when it warmed up this afternoon in the low 40s I did take my bike out for an hour and a half ride just for fun.

Retyped that line - I intended the 'dash' for separation not indication ... ;)

Yay for somebody getting out and enjoying the ride on 2 wheels. Gonna try two skiis after work on the school lawn ( cross country skiis). Enough snow here to cover that and make some interesting conditions for 2 wheels I will avoid for now. And temps above zero!

Yeah, Looking like we also won't be getting much cooler to improve my standing either. Though I'm not really complaining. We had 59F on Sunday. About the same the last time I took the bike out for a 45 mile ride a week ago. Expecting close to zeroF for a low a week from now.

the lowest prediciton for us I see until mid Feb is 25 so doubt I'll get to ride in any colder conditions than I already have

I might have a chance still...

For the past week, we've had a couple of inches of snow on the ground. Temps were cold...but not cold enough to risk dumping the bike. But by next Monday or Tuesday, we might have the roads clear and dry enough for a run at it.

Chris (keeping his fingers crossed).

I just shoveled the last of the snow off my drive yesterday and pitched it into the yard where is still sat today. Problem was it snowed a bunch, I shoved it into piles with my quad and snow blade all around the edges of the drive. Then it got really cold and froze.

Most big parking lots in the area still have frozen mountains of the stuff 4' and 5' high where commercial plowers pushed it. We are still supposed to have lows below freezing 13 out of the next 14 nights, refreezing what melts during the days where highs will be in the 30s and 40s. It will be awhile before all remnants of that early January snow are gone completely.

We just had an ice storm yesterday morning. Well, "storm" is a bit of an exaggeration. More like a constant mist of ice pellets all morning. And my wife had to go somewhere in the morning and I watched as she stopped the car on the driveway... but the car didn't stop. The wheels all stopped but the car kept sliding down the driveway until the road. Good thing there was no one coming down the street at that moment. It was a very smooth slippery surface. By last night the ice was mostly gone from the road and just a little remained on my driveway in the shadow of the garage. Now just expecting snow in the early morning. And again Monday night. And again Wednesday. And again Friday. Looks like a formula to keep off 2 wheels for a bit.

The danger around here is the not just the snow and ice, but also all the sand they put down. We'll have that around now for weeks and weeks. Move out of your tire track in the middle of a turn, and oops! Umm...slipped up a bit.

That's what they were predicting for us this morning. When I woke up and looked out, all was dry so I snuck out for a quick 42 miler. 36 degrees. Only got sprinkled on for about 5 miles, but no ice.
