ST1300 Heated Grips

I removed the side cowling and disconnected the heated grip plug from the quartet harness, then made up a hitachi 2 pin plug in so I could directly hook the controller to a spare battery I had. Bike was in my garage, so I didn’t want to run it.
I hooked up the Honda heated grip controller to a stand alone motorcycle battery off my parts bike. The battery was 100% charged at 12.87 volts.
The battery voltage measured before the test was 12.87 volts.
I disconnected the 2 heated grips coming out of the controller and measured the voltage coming out of the controller while cycling the controller switch.

Ok it makes sense. Also, I couldn’t run the ST in the garage. Yes winter…
I did the same to check the grip’s controller, alone on the bench, when I started my investigation. (Variable bench-top power supply + bulbs to simulate the load) Also checked the cut-off voltage. (12.7Vbat) and the quality of the PWM waveform. All checked good. OEM Honda Product…
Let us know the result of the diagnostic on the failed grip. (would go for a broken wire)
Cheers!

Yes, you are correct, went and excavated the insulation right where the one wire enters the grip and it was the broken wire.
Nasty to fix as there is a stub of wire imbedded in the grip to join the wire too.
I might try to solder on a wire and insulate it with liquid electrical tape.
