ST1300 Dash Speakers

Re: MENTAL EXERCISE - ST1300 Dash Speakers

These are what I bought for use in my Honda Boxes,, less then $60 us shipped, I bought from David Silver. They are the Polk Audio db401 They are certified for Marine use, are 45 watts, and full range. They fit nicely in the Honda Boxes. Now if my JBL MBB-Mini radio ever ships I am ready to install.

Thanks Mark! Good one! Now, about those Honda OEM speaker boxes... I checked out David Silver's site and only saw the boxes with a speaker kit. I couldn't find the boxes just by themselves. Any ideas on how to obtain the speaker boxes alone?

Good one Sink! I didn't think to do a search on that. Nice thread and very imformative. One pound of pork fat for ya! :clap2:

Here I thought you had me blocked or something... I gave you the part numbers earlier....

Could you make that 5 lbs. of the finest Maple BACON on the shelf???? Speakers are getting expensive, huh?:crackup

What kind of hardware did you use to mount the speakers in the boxes?

What kind of hardware did you use to mount the boxes on the frame rails?

Can the mounting be done without removing the instrument panel top cover. In other words if I just removed the inner and middle cowls, can I get the job done?

I could not determine these things from your thread.

Mark,
To mount the boxes to the frame and to mount the speakers in the boxes,
I used the hardware supplied with the Honda speaker kit. At the time I was a noob and did not realize that the boxes could be ordered individually...an expensive lesson.

As far as what has to be removed, I'm not sure if you can do it without removing the instrument panel. As I was doing multiple Farkles at the time, I just stripped off all of the Tupperware to make it easier and to learn where everything is (trust me, this was a real learning experience).

I know these answers are vague so let me know if I can clarify further. As I did all of this almost 2 years ago, my memory may not be very clear.

Re: MENTAL EXERCISE - ST1300 Dash Speakers

I used Polk Audio speakers already mentioned here, with boxes ordered from Davidsilver by the phone. I bought a 50 Amp moto amp and used Amplirider to mix in input from Escort and GPS. I had to throw in couple ground loop isolators. After I finished - I found myself not using them - when the bike is not running, the amp would drain the battery dry in 30 minutes and while moving it was kinda cheesy so I unpluged the Amp and piped the sound to helmet speakers instead.

here is a pic in the mid install:

Re: MENTAL EXERCISE - ST1300 Dash Speakers

Fred, I stumbled across this amp over at David Navone's shop a few minutes ago. Thought you might be interested.

Note, you need to scroll to the bottom of the page.

If you mean this hot little red number... She looks like a nice little hotty and cheap! Good choice! I'll check it out! :)

Re: MENTAL EXERCISE - ST1300 Dash Speakers

If you are planning to install a Stebel, it will probably interfer with the right speaker area. I can't remember how close it is, but seems to me that it's pretty close. :(

Re: MENTAL EXERCISE - ST1300 Dash Speakers

Stebel, if installed according to the directions that were posted here, will not be in the right speaker area. Holy cow! Man that would wake me up from my riding nap!

I have been thinking the same thing. I have been looking for a horn replacement that will be better than stock, but will not interfere with the speaker install.

I don't know, looks pretty close to me...

Re: MENTAL EXERCISE - ST1300 Dash Speakers

I don't think mine's that far up...I'll have to go take a look...

EDIT: My speaker grill is clear behind it. Not sure why...guess we mounted my Stebel lower...

BTW, I pulled that picture off this site ....it's not mine...

Re: MENTAL EXERCISE - ST1300 Dash Speakers

I ordered the speaker boxes by themselves from david spars for around $42 shipped .
Bought some polk Polk Audio db400 off ebay for $20 and a small amp off ebay for another small amount .
Plug in my older MP3 Player and I have tunes

Wont win any stereo contests but I can hear it around town so far and its not bad for on the way to work

How much of the fairing and body did you have to remove first before installing the boxes?

I was just thinking of this for uses during parking and camping situations. I couldn't hear anything with all that wind noise and full facer. I'm plugged into helmet speakers. I just thought how cool would it be to pull into a campsite and turn off the bike and turn on the tunes and setup the tent and stuff. Listen to sat. radio and weather, etc.

Re: MENTAL EXERCISE - ST1300 Dash Speakers

I had removed both sides and the dash as I also installed the heated grips at the same time so bike was pretty much naked
I used black RTV to mount speakers as its pretty sturdy until you need to replace them .
I have not ridden in hard rain yet so dont know that answer
