Here goes.....
We started with pulling most of the tupperware off, everything except the rear taillight. Getting ready to install the steering head bearings.
Steering bearings and forks rebuilt and installed, with my spare front wheel so we could move it onto the lift.
On the lift and ready to start.
Having a butterfly air impact really helps make quick work of most bolts that have to be removed. I lock the front wheel in the wheel vice on the front of the lift. Then add the extra bar that will serve as the perfect place for tiedowns to hold it all straight. Some other pictures show the bar, it is 1 1/2 inch black pipe, with PVC cut to fit on each end to keep it from sliding from one side or the other while the bike is tied down to it. The hand operated 2ton chain hoist is what I use to raise the rear of the frame to remove the rear axle and then the rear tire.
This bolt for the brake holder gave me fits, finally got it out. Had to remove the mufflers anyway, but this bolt was a pain.
When pulling the rear wheel, I could tell the bearings were shot, and I think they contributed to the wear on the drive splines. The drive splines on both the final driven flange and the final drive itself show significant wear, but we will clean them and moly paste them up real good.
New cush drive rubbers and the inserts are on the way. Also look at the socket bolts for the damper plate. The driven flange has rubbed some of the bolt heads pretty bad, also new bolts are on the way.
Final drive splines. Sorry about the blur in the picture.
Ready to pull the final drive, and you can see one side of the bar that I hook the tiedowns to.
Final drive and the swing arm removed.
Final drive nuts came off the drive housing easy enough, it did not take to much to break them loose. And the drive shaft is in real good shape, the splines at the motor were not too dry, but will get moly paste when it all goes back together. This is pretty much where we are at untill we get some parts. I want to bleed the clutch line while it will be this easy to get to. I hope you have enjoyed my ramblings. More later as we go back together.
Gary.
