Shopping for new boots

I have the Oxtar GoreTex boots. Like these on Ebay

I bought them from someone on here many years ago. They have been very comfortable and waterproof and easy to walk in. They were my back up to the Alpinestar Web GoreTex boots which I loved until the bottom started to come off mid trip and had to use Gorilla tape to keep them together. Both have a zipper and Velcro.
Also had BMW Allround boots and they were very comfortable too.
I think if you have GoreTex, you will be hot no matter what. If you use smartwool or some type of cooling sock, you will do better, for sure don't use cotton sox.

I've had 2 pair of Oxtars for the last 10 - 15 years. I dunno, but it's been a good long while.
Mine were called Matrix before TCX bought Oxtar.
Haven't tried their offroad boots (these street boots suck offroad), I ruined my first Matrix boots by being too rough on 'em off tarmac. They still work for street riding, but they're as ugly a pair of boots as you'll ever find.
That learned me... proper tool for the proper job.

That's a good-looking boot and the price is right. I could see myself wearing a pair of those on the Blackbird in the Texas heat.
They are well ventilated and I find them quite comfortable in summer. Oddly enough, they are also OK for winter if I tuck my feet in out of the wind blast. They are also mostly devoid of the graphics, colors, etc. that scream "look at me". Plain low key black...

i bought a pair of Alpinestar new land gore-tex boots back in '15, still wearing them but its time to start wearing the new land boots that i bought before i broke my foot. Alpinestar doesn't make this boot anymore but these look good to me

I wore Tourmaster Epic boots till I bought the XR. The seat was just a bit too high and I couldn't reach the ground well enough.

I saw an add for one of the BMW dealerships, probably Bob's BMW, where they were advertising the BMW CruiseComfort Boot.

The sole caught my eye. It is thicker than on my TM Epic boots. And it was enough to make a difference. They are comfortable and you can walk around in them. They're Gore-Tex too. I wore them all winter in the rain and all summer in hot weather. My feet didn't get wet from the rain. And while my feet did sweat some, it was no more than on the TM Epic Air boots.

If you get on Bob's BMW mailing list, he has sales and coupons for money off purchases.

When I had my high-speed getoff in June, the boots did fine, and so did my feet and ankles. All I had to do with the boots to make them look good again, was to put a coat of polish on them.

I bought them for the price ($48.99), the ankle coverage, and the zippers.

They're holding up great. I added zipper pulls to make using them easier.

I found the original listing from Woot. I bought them in March of 2018.

They are called: Smith & Wesson Breach 2.0 Men's 8" Side Zip Boots

Smith & Wesson® Footwear Breach 2.0 Men's Tactical Side-Zip WaterProof ...'s Tactical Side-Zip WaterProof ...
Can you put those boots on and off just using the zipper?

Yes, once I tie them to fit, either by trial and error, or ask someone to tie them while I'm wearing them.

After that, I pull them on (with a little difficulty), then pull the zippers up with the added pull rings.

Thanks for all the replies to this thread. I appreciate the info.

I kept looking for a boot deal on ebay and finally saw a listing for Sidi Canyon boots in size 47. $50. They were mislisted as "On Road" boots. I didn't realize they were Canyon's until after I placed my order.

They arrived today and look almost new. They fit perfectly and are quick and easy to put on and take off. I'm super happy with them and glad I could stay with Sidi.

I turned my left TCX (formerly Oxtar) bout into a flip-flop on my Saturday ride. The rubber sole is detached from the foot bed.

I'll try to get it repaired at a local show shop this week. They are super comfie and waterproof, but probably 12 years old.

Not even close to worn out, just aged.

Sorry to hear that! That's a great boot to have lasted that long. I don't know how old my Sidi On Roads are but I've had them forever. Maybe 24+ years? I guess I've gotten my money's worth out of them. I'll keep them as a backup.

That's a great score! I just got some Canyon 2 boots recently, love the thick soles.

My TCX airtechs did the same thing and I was going to get them glued back but noticed there were other parts to them that were falling apart due to age, just crumbling plastic... so replaced w/canyon 2 boots.

The Canyon 2's were at the very top of my list, but I didn't want to pay for them unless I had to. Very lucky the Canyon's came along.

I haven't looked closely at the differences between the Canyon and the Canyon 2, but obviously there's been a strap and buckle change. The buckle strap on the Canyon looks like it could be a wear item and that's probably why Sidi changed the design. I'll look for replacement straps now before I need them and can't find any.

I did my first ride with the Canyon's today. Rode a couple of hours. Problem is, I could barely feel the shift lever through the shift pad on top of the boot. That was funky and it made for some clumsy shifting. I hope that changes once the boots are worn in. Otherwise, they fit perfectly and feel great. What a difference in how fast they are to put on and take off compared the Sidi On Road's I'm retiring. I'm sure not going to miss all those velcro straps on the On Roads.
