This comm system is awsome!!! I had been looking into getting something for a while now and I never pull the trigger until I research all the pro's and con about my purchase. Hence the reason for the Ultimate two wheeled vehicle, the ST1300 06'. I ride a lot with my father, which poses one major problem. He gets nervous riding with me as I do with him. Now I am not saying that I don't care for the friends that I ride with, but when it's your dad the intensity increases. You are watching were you are going but at the same time you are looking out a lot for him, I am sure you father and son riders know what I am talking about. I know the he has been riding for a lot longer than I have, but we both have had our close calls. I found the solution, and it's bike to bike communication. I can tell him which side of the lane I am on or where the yahoo in the little rice rocket is, that is blasting down the street. I HIGHLY recommend this to any crew that rides together alot.
We go the Scala Rider Q2, and it has not let me down in any of the departments that it claims, except for the FM function but I new about that before i bought it. Lets just face it, it sucks. Besides that, The first day I got it to my suprise the Bluetooth that connects to my cellphone was excellent. The very next day when I was riding to work I called my wife, At 80mph on the 405, and she could'nt tell I was on the STeed. She thought I took my car. Then once my dad got his it linked up flawlessly and we rode in the morning to work and I had to tell him to stop yelling, even though we were goin 75mph. He was trying to yell over the noise he was hearing from his 08' Hayabusa. But the clarity is amazing. I never could get the thing to link up to my bluetooth receiver on my IPOD. So I just stick to the ear buds. I still hear the Q2 perfect. I looked into many different devices and this one was the most compact and also lasted the longest, 7 hours. Again if any one is looking into getting something like this check this system out. get away from the typical stores and go onto Amazon. We found ours for $150 when it is sold other places for $200.
That's all for now. I will try and get some pictures so that if anyone needs help with the set-up they can see how we did it. I have a Scorpion Exo 1000

I now have 3 of these.
I agree the Q2 is great, but for different reasons.

Strange, but to me, it's FM is it's "best" feature. It works GREAT!!! I preset first 3 channels for my local area (requires a fully charged battery to correctly scan), next 2 for scanning when out of my area, and last channel is tuned to one of those $10 FM transmitters so I can use other non-Bluetooth devices cordless as well (as long as they have an earphone jack). The presets beep to signify which preset you are using. Works excellent.

The second best feature for me is battery life. I get at least 9 1/2 hours of use between charges, with 100% FM use all the time, and 10% voice intercom communications during that time.

The only bad thing about the Q2 is it does not support A2DP profile. This means it will not pair correctly to many cell phones as a headset for the phones built in music player, It will still pair as a "phone" headset, so you can make or receive calls, just not for music with some phones. New Samsung M520 is one example. The work around for this is the $10 FM transmitter mentioned above.

Another downside is when using 3 units. One is setup as Primary, while other two are secondary. Only the Primary unit can communicate with the secondary units. They can not communicate with each other.

Bike to bike range between 2 units is about 1/3 of a mile, which was fine for our needs.

Almost forgot, one unit has a volume/channel up button that no longer works after a couple days use. Will see how well their warranty service is with that unit.

My brother was wearing a Q2 during his recent headon collision, and while impact riipped the Q2 off his helmet, tearing the helmet speaker wires apart, the main removable module still seems to works fine.

I too have a ScalaRider FM unit and love it. :bow1:
The FM works fine around town but not in the canyons. I have an IPOD Nano with FM transmiter to send music wirelessly to the FM receiver in the headset, seems to work fine. Bluetooth paired up with my Motorola Razor first try! Making and receiving calls works flawless. I have my phone set to auto answer and voice dial.

I just ordered a Q2 for my use so I can comm with a buddy on his bike and will put the original on my wifes helmet to have intercomm with her. Scala says the Q2 is backward compatible with my older version, we will see...

With you guys. Bought (2) Q2's for my wife and I. Great communication between us and with my Zumo 550 paired with my phone. $300.00 for both.

Bought a pair of Q2s for our vacation ride in the smokies this summer. My son and I rode My wing and BMW and have nothing but praise for these units.

Up to about 300 meters we could speak to each other as well as if we were sitting in a resturant across the table.

Nice piece of equipment,! .....Don

Exactly --> I too have two ScalaRider FM units and love them. :bow1: My son inherited the old one and they are backwards compatible for rider to passenger IC.

Got my Q2 today and pairing with phones went flawless but I can't get them to pair in intercom mode...Have to call Cardo tomorrow...:(

Always do pairing when units are fully charged. Less than full, and failure.

Try resesting all pairing, then pair them first for intercom before pairing with phone.

I just went through this when I switched main units.
Instructions are not clear, and it did not work that way.
Clearing worked as instructed, but pairing as intercom did not.
Pairing as intercom simply required turning both cleared units back on.
They quickly found each other with no input needed from me.
But that was 2 Q2's.

Reseting and the order you do things in are critical for pairing these.
Start with the Scala Rider FM, as instructions state (but clear it's stored settings first).

Also, in low noise area's, where most do pairing, you will need to turn volume up all the way to hear anything, or test intercom. These are made for use with noise all around you.

How do you clear both units? The manuals don't say.
Cardo is only available till 5 pm eastern and I'm on the west coast!

Bottom of page 4.

To reset a unit:

1. Place in Primary Pairing mode first.
Turn on by pressing Ctl until Blue flashes 3 times. Release.
Press and hold Ctl and MC for at least 6 seconds, until red flashes rapidly.
Release.

2. press and hold Volume Up for 3 seconds. Release.

3. Red and Blue lights will flash 5 times, confirming it was reset.

Mine did not go exactly as stated above by following the manual, but it still did do the trick.

Looks like I am about 4 years behind the curve?
I bought a set of the "Q2" used, Ebay.
They appear to work as advertised...but, I have one issue.

I can't get the FM radio to stay on, when i want to talk to my passenger?
If I tap the button to 'call' the passenger, it turns the radio off?

Also, what is the difference in the base ( helmet) units? One of mine has "Cardo" on it and the other says "Scala Rider".
Is the base what determines which unit is the "primary", I can't physically tell the difference in the detachable units?
Thanks,
Ernie

I have this unit. Used to have 2 of them and sold one to a friend. Either one can be "primary" since it has more to do with what unit you slave or pair the other one to. The FM radio issue sounds normal since it is the same button to call the other unit as to select the radio on/off or select radio presets. What happens when you tap it again? You should tap it to establish a call to the other unit, then if you wait 30 seconds of no talking (both sides) or tap it again you should return to the radio.
Normally the radio mutes when I say something or some other noise is picked up by the mic, then the radio comes back after a few seconds. I can answer the phone just by saying something outloud (auto-answer with voice), and the radio will stay off until the phone call hangs up (also automatically). Don't think there is any real difference between the one that says "Cardo" on it and the one that says "Scala Rider" since one name is the company and the other is the model. Only that one unit may be newer than the other.

Thanks for the tip, sorry I hadn't been on here in a while.
I tried poking all the buttons...but never got the radio to work with the intercom.
90% of the time I am solo anyway.

Maybe we were picking up noise the hole time?
My ST is a little loud with the Two Brothers slipons...
Thanks again,
Ernie

ErnieB, the intercom prioritizes the radio. Another tap on the intercom button brings the music back. Sometimes there is a pause of a few seconds. If you have the volume up too much the wind noise keeps the mic keyed, and it wont come back. You might need to turn the VOX off and just use the buttons to intercom. I took a sharpie and marked the back of the unit that I use for primary, because thats the one I pared bluetooth with my phone. These units have some issues, mostly quality control, but are pretty cool when they are working correctly. Ted

My only complaint is that the volume does not get loud enough. I wear ear plugs all the time and with my iPod cranked all the way up and the Q2 cranked all the way up I can still barely hear music. I need an amp or something.

Thanks for the tip, Mean13. I will try it. I must be the only guy on the planet, without a cell phone? Someday i will jump into the 21st century :)
I don't have any friends...nobody would call me anyway :(

BoSTon, try moving the speakers around in the helmet, I read that on a post somewhere...and it made a WORLD of difference.
You wouldn't think 1/4" up, down, back or forth would make a difference, but we had the same issue, very low volume.
Moved the speakers just a 1/4" and then it was way too loud...had to turn it back down.
Once I got them "happy", I marked their location with a Sharpie.

Thanks guys.

Karen, this has been like this since I got the Scala no matter what type of plugs I use. I even tried playing around with speak positioning. It's just not loud enough. My wife says the same thing and can barely hear me over the intercom (which may be a good thing ;-)). I think I'll try an amp this season. Maybe a a nice Infinity subwoofer system so you can hear me coming from a few blocks away :D

Howard, Change your ear plugs and see of you notice a difference. I do! If my ear plugs are a week old, I can't hear my radio. Put new ear plugs in and I can hear it just fine and may even need to turn the volume down.
