Ride For Cambodia?

Just a reminder: I'm accepting contributions for Sustainable Cambodia into my PayPal account,,, money will be handed over directly.

cattmando@gmail.com

Banarath seems an exceptional young man and we each gave him some money.

Thanks, Don, doing what you can.

I ended up sending my donation by paypal directly to Bunnarath's email address. I hope he checks his email - paypal says he's not registered.

Thanks Don.

I have his phone number and will let him know (his phone number is also listed on his website).

It was so much easier to just send to George... thanks George!

George may be going through some sort of incantation, being as he is a bit ill looking and his behavior strange;

I don't know what it is about the traffic paterns in Cambodia. One would think that with as many "Cambodian Peoples Party" signs all over the country, there would be more governmental controls over traffic behavior.
Seems they have a mix of socialism and free (for all) enterprise with a frightening lack of stop signs and traffic cops. An initial sense that it's everyman for himself eventually evolves into a realization that the system works somehow with only one (two cars) accident that we saw.
There is plenty of yielding going on but now and then we get strafed by a high speed truck or car.

Many of the bones from Pol Pots genocide lay here in this cave at the top of the mountain. A local monk explained that during the genocide the educated and the teachers were taken to this mountain, held as prisoners and then cruelly killed and their remains left in this cave.

George stayed back at the hotel shaking off a bug that got him sick.
This is indeed a must see place and was recommended by Lukas Bernhardt of Lighthousebanttambang.com , a Swiss fellow who moved to Cambodia in 2007 to "teach and be taught" here he is with his daughter in the foreground.

Enjoying the video and photos, keep them coming!
From someone who has travelled a bunch in India without getting sick...Drink only boiled or bottled water,HOT tea, coffee, veg soup OK. No ice or melon type fruit (sometimes injected with water to increase weight). Avoid meat dishes from roadside vendors (lack of refrigeration) unless you know it is fresh, vegetables, noodles, rice, and eggs are usually the safer bet.
Hope you get well soon George!

Thanks guys for all the feedback and comments....Smash, I don't even wheelie my WEE. :)
It was all I could do to keep the front down on those uphill sections. BTW, more of those type videos are in the pipe.

George is sleeping, thats a good sign. We're scheduled to leave tomorrow morning but Joe, Dace and I wouldnt mind spending some more time here in Battambang if George need more downtime.

You all have really gone above and beyond on taking us with you, kudos for that, great stuff!

Hope G feels much better soon.

Ya, I was going to send it to George, but I was too lazy to look through the 70 pages of this thread to find the link. The ones Dace posted were right in front of my nose at the time. :D

Seems I got my pagotas mixed up...quoting my well traveled brother " I don't wanna go ta another pagota" ;)

Great write up Danny, except we were at Sampong Mountain and not Banan Temple. :D

Of course, we've seen so many temples and pagodas it's easy to lose track!

Last night we had the opportunity to go to the Phare Ponlea Selpak Cirque. It was phenomenal! (Think Cirque de Soliel on a budget except all the performers are teenagers and incredibly talented.) Pictures don't begin to do it justice.

It was an incredible combination of acrobatics, story telling through dance, music, and painting. I took a couple of videos with my phone and will post those when I have computer access.

Basically they told the story of Cambodia in such an incredibly moving and powerful way. They used the traditional music and dance forms and modernized them to tell their story. If you ever make it here, going to the "Battambang Circus" is a must-do.
