Ride For Cambodia?

Just looked at my drivers licence while making copies and noticed it's going to expire on my birthday 2/19/13
EEK!
Tomorrow I'll have another thing to scramble around an get sorted.

Just thought I'd mention it so you guys check all your documents for their expiration date.

Also make a few copies of all your docs. I'm thinking credit cards too. Keep these copies somewhere different.

In Laos there are many people knew multiple languages in big cities, you will runs in to some person that can speaks English, French, German, Spanish and more of SEA languages... Laos is small country but, it's very diversity.

Not sure what the literacy rate is in those countries. I expect that pictures are worth more than the printed words. Then again, as a sailor who has been to Thailand, I rarely had trouble communicating, mostly because a significant number of the population understood English. I had more trouble in Japan than I did Thailand. Never been to Laos, so I can't even begin to address that issue. Better safe than sorry. One piece of advice, get a local you trust to check your list and have them help you with pronunciation. Could save some embarrassment, possibly even more depending on how proficient you are at mangling the local language.

Some very common gestures here in the US are considered offensive there, so be careful what you do.

I would try to avoid letting it expire. It might make it harder to get it renewed, which seems, as I recall, happened to someone I know here.
Copies are good, especially of the passport. Don't forget to notify the credit card company (debit cards too) of your trip out of the country for an "extended stay".
I send myself an email with card company phone numbers on it for lost or stolen cards.
Good luck on the license renewal. At least you will have the Intl License?

Very cool, Chuck. Thanks for peek. I noticed on page three what looked like a green snake, the one that Tip says you get three to five steps after a bite. I love it.
Gorgeous and mysterious landscapes. Maybe we'll make an effort to get into VN. Where is "Trail Rider" located?

Got my drivers licence renewed but the new permanent won't be to my address for another week. That's not going to work for a Tuesday departure but I have the international Licence and a temporary that runs out about ten days before I return from SEA, early April. That'll have to work and I believe it will.

On another note, one of the first things we'll need to know is the Bangkok taxi cabs.
This looks like good information:

http://www.thai-faq.com/5-tips-for-taking-taxi-in-bangkok/

We'll only be getting in cabs where we feel comfortable doing so. No need to get in the first one that's available.

Long ago and far away, (while I was still working) managers had a saying....."lack of planning on your part, does not justify an emergency on my part". So, I'm hoping we don't have any "unjustifiable" emergencies on this trip.
I also had a boss who once told me, "I'll do the hoping, you do the doing".
I'm just hoping we are doing enough planning to justify all our emergencies.;)

One week 'til "lift-off" for me and it still doesn't seem real.....
:D

Have the stuff laid out for packing and working on whittling down.

Any and all emergencies will be duly justified by it's accompanying story with as many pics as is appropriate for the situation.

More pics...less of an emergency and visa Versys :)

A bit early,,,but to beat the rush,,You all have a fantastic trip. We will ALL be keeping an eye on you and wishing we were along. Which in it's self would be problematic with G's 4 rider maximum. :D
Have fun, take lots of pics and video and above all,,,,,BE SAFE!

Wishes you-all have fun adventure in SEA say Sabaidee to all my friends in Laos for me... :D I wish I could be with you-all to leading the ride, remember to pm me if you-all needed my help! (see if I can?) Safe journey folks!:)

Thanks Tip. You'll be missed. I expect to hear often the words "What would Tip do"

Here's whats going in the bag minus odds and ends such as MC gear phone and netbook.

How long you been wearing the Palm shirt, Danny? :D

4 riders but 40 for dinner every night is my hope. I'm sure all participants will be sharing/swapping/riding together throughout the two weeks of R4C. The other weeks, we 4 will ride and travel together as much as possible.

Didn't want to post the pic of the six plastic cash alternatives on the internet. Did you count the Franklins, Tip. I might get through the whole three months on them alone. As you can see I cut the stuff in half and doubled the money.

BTW, that's not a shirt...that's the swim suit that matches the shirt :)

Don't forget to e-mail yurself and SOs pics of yur primary documents, and carry paper copies too.
