Ride For Cambodia?

Send us these, Tip:

Hello
Goodbye
Thank you

Where is-
Gasoline?
Water?
Beer?
Restaurant?
Hotel?
Bathroom?

Thanks for your help, wish you were going with for reasons beyond language. :D

I picked up a pocket phrase book for SEA. Figured, worse case, I can point.....

:)

There is always mime...it got us a good story when we tried to cross from Guatemala into Mexico at a non vehicular border on the same river as on my avatar, rio Usumacinta.

I trust you all had a great Christmas. I did except for a deep cut to my left middle finger that I managed while slicing taters with my daughters' "veg-a-matic" style slicer. The V-a-M (with my help) took a chunk of meat and skin from the lower knuckle area that I didn't bother to recover. It may have ended up in the rosemary potatoes?? After the bleeding stopped there was no pain except when I look at it. I have a concern that it might not be healed sufficiently in time for the Ride for Cambodia. If not I may have to make changes to my plan. I have a metal splint I can put on it and cut the middle finger out of a glove. This could make for some goods waves with the clutch hand, eh? I think the worst case scenario would be sticking to only the best of the roads in Cambodia, avoiding as much mud and river crossing as possible. I've attached a pic which looks much better than the plan view in my opinion...

Three weeks plus a couple days, hope it heals sufficiently. Rubber gloves under the riding gloves to help keep it clean?

I can't say "I feel your pain" but I sure can empathize with you, buddy. If you got the missing piece out of the mashed potatoes, I would say just crazy glue it back on or something. :(
From this pick, I see you still on the RFC but we'll continue to hope for the best anyway.
Keep it clean and maybe slightly bent to split the difference in the range of motion.

Boy, you really know how to get an adventure off to an unpredictable start.:D

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words.. perhaps a cheatsheet of common objects like gas can, bathroom w/both lao/thai words under them would help too.

Good idea, Joe. Thanks.

According to Tipster, this one needs no translation. :D

Per Wiki, Singha is prounounced ,sing, and should be easy to order. They only have production capacity for a billion liters so it may be hard to get :D:D
It's 26F here in the Wild and Wonderful, forecast for Bangkok is 86F, maybe we should wear shorts on the plane?

Singha, pronounced Sing-har. (Sing mean Lion in Lao/Thai) Yeah, it's winter time over there also, but it's been warm in SEA nowadays (Global warming) But up at Northern Thailand and Laos is cold due to high elevations mountains area. During the day temperature properly in mid 50-60's F at night might be down to higher 30-40's F and cool windchill.

Thanks for the language and weather update, Tip. Not sure if we can inoculate against a lion attack.

On that note, Jan. 2nd I go to the infectious disease quack for a few shots. I am not feeling like i need to get ALL of what he may suggest, especially if it's going to be a lot out of pocket. I may forgo the rabies since one who gets bitten still needs to go to a hospital even after having had the shot.
I had Hepatitis A and B done two years ago. It's too late for those of us who didn't get that done to do it now, since it's three shots over a six month period.
We may be able to get Dengue, Typhoid, Cholera and Malaria immunity in BKK. I probably will get my Tetanus booster on Jan. 2nd.

As stated a while back, these inoculations' benefit to risk factors can be and are debated so I will not sit in judgement of anyone's decision.
I always refer to the RTW guys and gals who don't get any shots or med-evacuation insurance, then write books on their adventures.

It's probably a lot of peace of mind and a little protection.

With or without these insurances, we'll be fine and will return with some tales to tell.

Good summary, Danny. I'm not taking my Gerbing Jacket so hope it don't get too cold. Bangkok is 81 right now (3 AM there right now.)

No electrics for me either. Even if we had them I'd bet the tiny alternators won't handle the load.

Between wake and sleep, I sometime think of worst case scenarios such as getting caught after dark in the mountains with a ways to go to the next town low on fuel...That's it, that's the worst that could happen :) ;)

That don't help much Dana... I've been in TX most of my life, moved here from CA shortly after I was born, and I still haven't found a Texan and knows Inglish.... :rofl1:
