Pelican Case Topbox

Some people chew tobacco .... some people chew salmon eggs .... I'm not judging anybody.

I'm anxious to see the results of the project. I have both an 1150 & 1500 under my desk. I am also considering a Nelson Rigg Roll bag .... I need something, just don't know what.

Update!

I did nothing on this today. (Continue with thread jack already in progress.)

Whew, after finally getting hold of the guy at Caribou Cases I am getting a universal plate sent to attach to the plate I got from Turbo Tom.

I'll let you know how things proceed. :D

OK, I got sidetracked on about 10 different other projects and tonight I got around to putting this all together.

I am using an orange box I've used over the years, but you can see this entire deal would look really good in black. ;)

OK, so here are the parts.

First was the base plate of the Honda Top Box. I have the Honda Top Box so I did it this way. If you have no Top Box at all I'll explain what you could do.

Next at the top is a bottom plate from Turbo Tom. This is the bottom part of a rack that he sells. I used the one that works with the Honda Top Box mount, but a regular one that replaces the rear factory plate could be used as well.

At the bottom is the base plate from Caribou cases.

I drilled and tapped the Turbo Tom plate to not have bolt heads at the bottom to deal with and then spaced the bolts so all would be flush.

Now, all of this doesn't exist as a kit, but I am willing to bet it could be put together for about $250 to $275 total.

Any questions?

It's just a design point. A more comprehensive design would duplicate the Factory set-up and obviate the need to glue the covers in place. Of course, cost is also a consideration, so it may not be feasible to do this. However, given that some people have posted messages about losing those covers--and, IIRC, that they are not sold separately by Honda--I thought now would be the best time to mention it, since you're still working on the prototype. HTH.

Ciao,

I saw a parts list on one of these sites for replacement covers from David Silver Spare.

I wonder if Turbo Tom could make some plates to hang the Honda topbox on the wall, when/if it's not being used. A friend started to do this but never finished it--Good idea, though.

Any questions?

How did you happen to find a Pelican Case that came with the Honda Top Box mount ?

Why didn't you use any velcro on this project ?

I used a kitchen cutting board on my Pelican Case .... why didn't you ?

How come you went with the orange case when you bike is red, silver and green ?

What's with all the black pipe on your rug ... did you have to remove your exhaust before you worked in the top case ?

What's with the stickers ?

Do you think the Steelers have a chance .... really ?

That's a big mop bucket in the photo .... are you a Janitor ?

Why are you always so terse ... can't you lighten up a little ?

Chem trails or Con Trails .... honestly .....

I'm of German descent, we overdo everything.

Because I had an orange case.

Not a rug. Different project. ;)

What's with the stickers ?

Gotta put them somewhere

Duh!

Small ones were sold out,

Why are you always so terse ... can't you lighten up a little ?

Must be the posts your reading.

Chem trails or Con Trails .... honestly .....

Ummm. HabadeWhaa??

I think it came out great, and yes, a little over-engineered but that's all good.

I put the 1400 case on my ST and now I wish I had gone bigger.

I'll see if I can swap meet an Interstate box or something from the HD side of things. I just can't get past the UFO look of the GIVI.

The engineering is really because I used the stuff from Caribou. I might pick up a black case the orange is kind of odd. LOL

What size would lend it self to fitting a modular helmet?

I'd ike one that could also be transferred to my Suzuki DR650.
