Old Enough To Remember?

My granny had the very first colour TV in the street, neighbours would come and ask if they could watch the sports in colour.
First grade.....A neighbor got the first color tv I'd ever seen. His house had an enclosed front porch and a large 'picture' window into his living room. They placed the tv where it could be viewed from the front porch. Neighborhood kids were welcome to watch from the front porch. We would turn their chairs around, sit and watch 'til it was time to go home, then put the furniture back where we found it before going home. At that point few shows were broadcast in color so our porch visits were usually an hour, one or two shows every evening.

Who started The Tonight Show? . . . Steve Allen, followed by Jack Paar then it was "Heerrrrres Johnny" Carson who ruled late night for 30 years.

2 adults and 4 kids in a small 1 bedroom apartment. My brother and I slept in a bunk bed on the closed in front porch and could watch the TV through the large picture window between us and the living room. Couldn't hear much, but the sight gags would get us giggling . . . but not to loud or we'd be in trouble! :D

The wonderful smell of a 2 stroke exhaust from dirt bike or snowmobile.& the beautiful crackling sound of a dirt bike getting rung out.(maybe not now in my senior years— ya a well tuned one).

...The first show I saw on a color TV was Bonanza. 1959 I believe. I still remember the map burning up and being amazed. My dad said we couldnt get one because they were too expensive...
We grew up poor; dad left when I was 5 and getting child support was like pulling alligator teeth.
That being said, we had a colour TV from the get go. My great aunt's husband Clyde owned a T.V and electronics store; when colour came out, we all got 27" RCA T.V's.
And yeah, The first program we saw in colour was indeed, Bonanza!

Trade test colour films- Ran on Saturday mornings, just after the cartoons. In the era of three channels black and white TV, you have no idea just how revolutionary these were. You were in the FUTURE.
We had a show called "The 21st Century with Walter Cronkite, very similar, showing us the FUTURE!! And according to that show, we should only be working about 15 hours a week, But I don't think they took into account that investors don't like it when you have new more efficient ways to do things but don't increase production.
