New to ST1300 ownership-- learning quickly about FI light and issues.... HELP!

38770-MCS-L01 03-06
38770-MCS-R12 07-12
38770-MCS-R21 07-12 PA
I'm missing the 13-17 PA ECM number.

HONDA SECRET: They are NOT interchangeable.

Insider secret: They are all interchangeable.

I really hate to bring this back from the graveyard, however, since the part 38770-MCS-L01 appears to be no longer manufactured or available new anywhere online,
can one of these others actually be used?

I guess I am looking for someone who had to go with a different module on an '04 and it works, before I try to find one of these others, new in the box. If not, and decide to not try a used one, may be time to send it to the parts yard.

I have a 2003 with code 25 I’m a retired mechanic, I replaced both sensors, checked the wires from sensors to ecu they checked out fine and to be safe I repl ace both wire connections and l/s wire with a shielded wire with no luck so I ordered a brand new ecu, guess what still have code 25, the bike is in great shape still runs great other then the f1 light comes on and I lose some miles per gallon. And that is why I have a 2017 sr1300p in my garage

Did you reset the system after you swapped the ECU?

I reset it so many times my jumper wire started to complain.

Did you replace the ECU with the original part number of 38770-MCS-L01 or did you try one of the others listed in the thread that might work?

Still seems to be an unknown if the other options work or not in the older model.

I don't see the relevance of doing that. Fault codes don't transfer from the old ECM to the new one. The new ECM would not have had any stored fault codes at installation. If the new ECM is reporting a code 25, there must still be a problem somewhere that is triggering it.

I’m with you on that but what? I’ve checked the wires to ecu they checked out ,new connections on the sensors, new sensors new ecu, checked the five way vacuum connection, checked throttle body sinc, checked and adjusted engine balancing shafts on l/s of engine, so I’m at a loss any ideas ?

Or the new ECM is faulty. Not likely, but everything we buy can arrive DOA. If there is another STOC member near you, you might swap ecm's to see if yours shows a fault in another bike.

It is my understanding that any ECM up to and including '07 can be used on bikes up to that year. They made some changes in 2008 so the '08 model year bikes take an '08 and later ECM. P bike ECM's in the appropriate year grouping can be fitted to civilian bikes in those two groups, i.e. 07 and earlier and 08 and later.

Fault code 25/26 indicates a fault with the knock sensor or the wiring.
Despite that, we know that on pre-2008 models, the cause is often the ECM.

Is your fault due to a defective new ECM, or a remaining and as yet undetected fault in the wiring or knock sensor despite the tests that have been accomplished. While it is one or the other, this is not something that we can determine from a distance. Accepting that your tests were properly performed and the results are reliable, I unfortunately don't really have any additional assistance to offer.

Which 2 wires (color of wires please) in the red plug do you jumper to reset

See below on how to check and clear the fault codes.

ECM Fault Codes
ECM Check and Reset Quick Guide

Alternate method to the Honda specified procedure;
Warm the engine to full operating temperature. Shut the engine off.
Put the side stand down.
Start the engine without touching the throttle.
Without touching the throttle, let the engine run until the radiator fans come on.
Turn off the engine using the engine kill switch- not the ignition switch.
Turn the key off.
All codes should now be cleared.
