Itchy Boots

From her email (if you're subscribed):

"I need some time to get my new equipment sorted, replace some of my camera equipment, get Alaska some spare parts for her service and research the next leg of my journey around the African continent. To do all of that, while also creating three episodes per week is not possible my friends. So forgive me, but there will be a short break on the channel soon."

Well, in the video I posted prior to this, she verbally announces her pause - she says at least two weeks, but not promising a date. IIRC, she announces this at the 17:40 minute mark.

I cannot believe the way she drove through that horrendous traffic in Dakar. This woman has bigger cojones than most of the guys I know. Incredible. On the other hand, having driven through London, Paris and Rome somehow when you are in the thick of it, it works to be aggressive. I suspect it looks worse (more dangerous) on camera.

When did Noraly get rid of her stud? I reckon between S1 and S2 after she got back to the Netherlands. Kept the nose piercing though.........

Hope she is having fun in the NW of Africa, cus it doesn't look like it is much fun. When you can go (almost) anywhere you want, that would not be high on my list.
Maybe because Dakar is there? The rally doesn't even go there anymore!

Noraly is publishing on Wednesday and Sunday and back on the road for us on Wednesday 3 May. My guess is she will be keeping relatively near the coast - it's too damn hot inland! My old atlas has countries listed as Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin and Nigeria, but they may have changed now...... The UK Gov. site gives warnings for unrest, disease and crime, which gets more urgent the farther she goes. We'll soon find out!

I've been tapping on her YouTube every couple days, to see if she posted a new video. Just yesterday - none, not even a hint.

I assume you're on her mail-list (I'm not), so thanks for info ... so, she's scaling back to two days a week ??? On Sunday?? Strange.

When you click on the little bell in the upper-right corner of a YouTube, doesn't that email you when a new video is available from that creator?
Might only alert you when you log into YouTube; I'm not sure.

Geez, my grammar was way off in my post - forgot to proofread it ... anyway ...

No bell for me ... and I'm not much for email subscriptions ... only takes 10 seconds to check for any new videos.

In this latest episode - Prepping her bike in Senegal for Africa part 2 - Noraly is walking and talking to the camera. The image is amazingly stable...is she holding a selfie stick w/ a camera on it?

Yes.
She always has the latest GoPro in addition to the new Insta360 v3, and software image stabilization is galaxies beyond what it was just 2 years ago.
EDIT: I should have said she has *multiples* of the latest GoPros, and you can often see two on Alaska, in addition to the 360 camera.
Handlebar (GoPro on one, 360 on the other grip), chin mount on the helmet, and sometimes a GoPro mounted on the rear of her Honda.

Finally watched Ep. 28 and the Alaska maintenance, a couple of observations that may go unnoticed.
Some of her passes while narrating, are a bit weird to me. In a roundabout, for example, passing on the left of cars, and some appear to be quite close, unnecessary even. Of course, the GoPro will compress distance and make things appear closer than they are, much like a convex mirror. Add to that the fact she's been riding a good while in western African cities, and is very comfortable with their driving habits, and traffic being used to bike filtering so it's not a big deal.
She goes so far as to comment on this at one point, saying that even though it's congested and busy, Dakar still leaves her with the feeling that everyone is "chilled."
Another interesting moment that probably most of you missed completely when the Insta360 camera mount fell off the bike while riding by the big cemetery, was when she pulled over to the side and walked back to pick it up. She quickly found it (lucky she noticed it when it fell?), and after screwing it back on, she mounted and put the key back in the ignition.
So what, you may be thinking?
Well, it shows me that even leaving the bike for just a moment, and walking only maybe 30 feet, she removed the key and took it with her! Which tells me that she has obviously become accustomed to traveling in foreign lands, and is always thinking of her personal security and that of all that she has with her. I would be nervous about walking out of sight of the bike at any time, given the non-secured items on the seat and luggage rack, as well as the cameras (not mounted and left on the handlebars, in this particular instance).
The Mosko side bags can be locked to the frame on some bikes, but I don't recall whether she even has a luggage frame on Alaska. I think they only drape over the platform on the back, and aren't locked. There may be a heat shield on the exhaust side, I don't remember.
It's all worked out for her so far, and I'm sure she puts it all in her room most nights, but still... even the GPS tablet would be a prize in many of the undeveloped countries she travels through. There haven't been any comments by her, regarding having anything stolen.
After going back to the beginning to catch up a year or so ago, I've never yet tired of her videos.
Seven seasons now. What a wild ride!
