Itchy Boots

SA has a higher population density than the USA though the GDP is significantly lower.
How 'bout petrol infrastructure? We've seen one instance where she stopped for fuel and the station was closed or there was no fuel. And she filled the bladders up at one point so "boonies" or no she seemed to think she'd be headed somewhere where a larger tank would be appreciated and fuel bladders in the meantime.

... and there was also the episode where she bought petrol from someone's house. We are so used to our brightly lit, well advertised gas stations, we forget how things used to be and still are in other countries.

ALONE! A GIRL AND HER DRONE!

Awesome! My favorite South Africa episode yet!
Same here! What an incredible expanse. A cobra and she circles back when she should have been on the throttle!! Anybody remember how snakes fared in the B.C. comic strips? :rofl1: I don't know what the service ceiling is on her MAVIC but I wish she'd maxed it and given us a 360 for a better perspective of her being in the middle of miles and miles (or kilometers) of nowhere.

And the dramatic music as she muscles Savannah through the gate posts. Makes me wonder who's allowed through and who isn't. Would locals know the code? Was she on land that maybe she shouldn't be? She passed through without a care. Great episode.

The 360 camera gave a better perspective of the grade on Alberts pass. I couldn’t help think about the Long way down series as I watched her single handedly document the ride and do the ride. What a contrast! We discussed that earlier, but it still amazes me how well she does this.

Around the 8-minute mark, when she comes to the gate and removes the luggage.
Then again around 10 minutes when she reloads it.
Is anyone else reminded of saddling a horse?

Am I the only one who finds himself all clenched up, viscera tight, as our dear Ms Schoenmaker struggles in loose sand or rutted track, or rides perilously close to the edge of a precipice ? o_O

I know she’s OK as she lived to tell the tale, but I forget about that during my immersive ride-along. Whew!

Wonderful drone footage, again! Wish I’d had some like that during rides on NV 50 and the Dempster.

If anyone is thinking about getting a drone, Costco carries a pretty inexpensive (relative) drone. I picked up the DJI mini. It is pretty small. Fits into case about 9x5x3 so it is easy to carry on the bike. Takes amazing video and pictures and is not that difficult to fly.

I picked up the DJI mini.
That’s the model I have. The flymore combo with 2 extra batteries and charger is good value. There is aftermarket software that makes the drone have “follow me” mode and way points. (I still use the DJI software)
I’m very pleased with mine

I haven't tried it yet. Have you?
No I haven’t. In theory I would love to be able to have a drone follow me or do the way point thing so it could have a view of me driving some curved roads, but the amount of time required to set it up and do it safely just doesn’t cut it for me as I just want to ride. That’s not to say I haven’t tried doing some effects with quick shots. If you do an orbit or helix the drone can look like it’s following you as you ride through the shot. Or in journey mode as it flies away from you to reveal you riding away. In each case you need to be aware of how fast you’re driving, between 20-30 km/h is Max. ( the footage makes it look like you’re going faster)
I do like flying it. I try and keep it in line of sight, but sometimes when I look down at the controls and then look up to try and see it, I can’t find it. ;).
Getting a birdseye view and recording it is awesome. You can get some amazing shots with it, and I very much like that.
