In the wet, what would you do if the ABS is triggered ?

In the wet, if you trigger ABS (i.e feel the rumble): do you ...

  • Ease off on the braking

  • Keep the same braking

  • Pull harder (i.e. pull through the rumble)

I had told myself a couple years ago that if I ever bought another motorcycle, I'd get one with cornering ABS and cornering Traction Control. When I traded my BMW F800GT in on a F900XR, I got that.

On June 8th, I went off the road at a high rate of speed. ;) I doubt I ever touched the brakes. I doubt if the traction control ever engaged. I now wonder if any of that would help for any of us. None of us will ever lean far enough in a turn to engage the cornering traction control. We'll panic first and hit the brakes...probably focusing on the grass/trees etc on the side of the road that we'll momentarily impact.

But...I can tell you that I have cornering ABS and Traction Control and hopefully you'll be impressed by that as an excuse for why I spent so much money on a motorcycle. ;)

There have been a number of studies that have documented that people become used to safety devices and may 'compensate' by behaving in a way that is riskier.
Yup. Just like people who get an AWD car with snow tires and think they can drive through snow and ice as if it's summer or kids who get one piece leathers & think it magically gives them Moto GP skills.
