Micheal
@mmmsted,
where you are, it is spectacular everywhere. As soon as we arrive any places, we feel the urge to jump to the next, like kids in a candy store.
Take the time to enjoy monument valley's landscape. It is unique, and one of the nicest place.
I believe the north rim is still closed. It normally open after memorial day, or around 3rd week of may, because being at 8800 feet (or something) water pipes at campground still freeze at night. Or maybe it's just the campground that is closed ?
Nice campground though : in the shade, under tall ponderosa pines. The view is spectacular.
South rim is lower in altitude : 6600, or something like that.
I've made grand canyon both rims, north and south, at the end of may 2017. I camped at both campgrounds.
Despite the fact that there is only just a few miles between both rims, by road, it takes five hours.
South rim is much more touristic, almost disneyland. OK, maybe not that much. But north is much more wild.
Rigth now, south will be a bit warmer at night. You have internet access at the lodge, a market to buy some meat, etc.
Maybe you could keep the northern places (north rim, bryce, zion, death valley, etc) for your way back ?
Hey, congrats micheal !
You've been through the desert... on a horse with no name.
Does your skin started to turn red ?
Right now, the skin of your horse seems very red to me.
Chris
America - A horse with no name.
On the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And the sky with no clouds
The heat was hot, and the ground was dry
But the air was full of sound
I've been through the desert
On a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert, you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
After two days in the desert sun
My skin began to turn red
After three days in the desert fun
I was looking at a river bed
And the story it told of a river that flowed
Made me sad to think it was dead
You see I've been through the desert
On a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert, you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
After nine days, I let the horse run free
'Cause the desert had turned to sea
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The ocean is a desert with it's life underground
And a perfect disguise above
Under the cities lies a heart made of ground
But the humans will give no love
You see I've been through the desert
On a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert, you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
