I think the way they covered the antennas in brown is a great idea., got to have communications in emergencies...
Stowner boomer!
I came to this site this morning looking for advice replacing a mirror on my ST1300 and now have spent four hours thoroughly enjoying you trip. My trip west in April got cancelled when my friends bike (not a Honda) blew its ECU. I now know I should've went alone because we don't know what tomorrow brings...Finding your thread about a westbound trip through the US has replaced mine for now, thank you!

Thanks! You might find a mirror if you list in wanted/ for sale. I crushed my left mirror in a top heavy tip last tour! My bad!
that ecu went to the icu!
my last trip was my second one. I had a ball! I tour alone because i really dont know where im going until ive had my morning coffee. I knew where i had to b eventually, but how i got there was determined over my coffee.
i dont know if you are new here or not but the guys and ladies are great.
Im leaving again as soon as i can afford it, prob late august or sept. I seem to like the 6-7 week ride abouts are what i like and everyone here encouraged, educated me, and i loved riding my tour with them.
stick around! This st thing is addictive!
Look into the meets listed on the home page. U will meet some pretty nice people.
also, consider becoming a supporter. Mellow works hard to keep this thing going.
maybe we will meet on the road someday!

We like 'em that way! Wish I would have caught up with this thread earlier as I would've given you some routes west and south out of Harrisonburg, VA. You should come back in the fall for WV-STOC.

Its funny you
Mentioned the WVSTOC! Im planning a fall trip and am hoping to be there on my way home! Im about 80% sold on the plan.

Oh, I think its a whole lot more than Christian re-living this. My trip was 30 odd years back, but memory is clear as yesterday for most parts. Many of us have made very similar trips and hope to again. Living it again through Stedy's eyes makes me want to go, like NOW! And that's a good thing.

@mmmsted, Pagosa Spring is at 7000 feet ?
Ouch !

Remember that, for every 1000 feet of altitude, you're loosing, on average, 3.5 degree F.

So, climbing to 7000 feet, it will be about 25F cooler.

That is why, I think, the best for now is to stay where it is warmer, that is a bit more south, because it is lower in altitude.

North of Arizona stands at 8000 feet, while the south is at 1000 feet. That is a 25 F difference. For a guy sleeping in a tent, it makes a difference.

It's like in summer, when you are at the base of mont washington. 78F, in T-Shirt and shorts, life is good.
You're climbing at the summit (or take the road for the top) and there, it is 45-50, and with the wind factor, you're freezing.
How did u get Stedy”? That has been my nickname my whole life.

That would be nice. I have an ST1300 and even though they're out of production (2013 civilian model, 2016 ST1300PA - police) parts are widely available with the exception of heated grips although I read somewhere that there is another model whose grips will work on the ST...Anyway, I'll try to visit this site more often too since I've found answers to any bike problems I've had here. 2006 ST1300, 71000 miles. 2106 ST1300PA, 9300 miles in 8 months. (New leftover bought last Sept.).

Its funny how things work out! I was re reading this and came across your wv stoc suggestion. As it stands, i am leaving for the fall (approx aug 15 departure), riding the north to maybe washington state, babysitting in pagosa springs co, possible arcansas stoc and to wv stoc and home to boston.
Of all these plans, my most important is the babysitting, so more will be revealed! I actually broke out a paper map and kind of found a route i like. Thats a first!
Hope to meet you at the wvstoc!

You know STraymond, he'll be at WV-STOC! Looking forward to meeting you and sharing stories!

I'm another who enjoyed your ride.

I don't know if you did this, but on my long-distance trips, I would wear a Camelback for hydration. You can find electrolyte packets at REI, and maybe in a flavor that you'd like. My daughter and S-I-L sent me a few for Christmas a few years ago, and I need to track them down.
I added a cup holder to the Wing, but still plan on the Camelback when I set out for Oregon, later this month.

Regards,
Steve
Where are you in cent mass? I used to live in Petersham!

I live in Oxford.
I still use the Camelback on the Wing.
But haven't added anything to the water, yet.
I found some Gatorade packets, but they're for adding that to a bottle of water.

Steve

Go west young man...

... the desert. That's what you want.
Between you, me and the lamp post... if someone asks me which natl park i liked most, id say thet were all different and could not b compared.
But, between us, the mojave lifted my shirt! As beautiful as it was, that wasnt why. It was that everything i had on my bike was what i had. I guess its hard to describe, but i was at peace with no gas, water, cell etc. i knew it was on me. I cant describe how it feels to know i had to get thru. Something was completed
In me
Thanks for suggesting the desert.

Gonna b real wet today. I love bragging about my $40 riding gear, and its going to get another workout today. If i do 200 mi today, ill be happy. Yesterday it rained and all was well, except when i pulled into a empty parking spot next to a county cop. He was real curious about my reason as i changed to a clear helmet shield. Hope today goes as wellBA080F1E-FF58-4E44-9C25-8E0C04CBFA29.jpeg

Isn't this the spring trip ride report? You should be on "Shipping out of Boston".
How much sleep did you get last night anyway?
