Thanks for ad. Been looking for a ST for a few weeks which have found out not easy to find. A local dealer has a 2009 with 102,000 miles. It has the MC cruise control. Little concerned about mileage. Are these bikes as reliable and bullet proof as the Goldwings? What to look for? Also what's available to lower seat height. I'm only a 30" inseam and the 31" seat height is going to be a bit tall for me.

Welcome from TX. Honda STs are very, very robust... 102k miles is no problem if maintained properly. One gotcha is the Secondary Master Cylinder (SMC) on the front wheel... they tend to age and can lock up the rear wheel at the most inopportune moment. The seat is adjustable, although you'll need to see if it's enough for you. There are several for sale here on ST-O. I'm sure some more experienced ST13 owners will chime in. Good luck with your purchase.

Hi @Rhino65 and welcome to the forum.

The OEM seat does have 3 built in positions of adjustment so you might be fine. I'd say go in and have them lower it to see how it feels to you.

If not you can get aftermarket seats but most I'm aware of are to address comfort more than height. Perhaps someone who's inseam challenged can chime in.

As for mileage, that's dependent on what maintenance has been done. The engines and bikes will last a long time, but there's always maintenance that's required and not just oil changes, brakes and tires.

Hi
I have a 29 inch inseam and ride at the highest setting of the stock seat and im on the balls of my feet. I would get on it and see how you feel

Welcome to the forum! There are several owners on here that have well over 100,000 miles on there ST1300s. In fact, there are several with two and three times that! The ST1100s are great reliable bikes also.

I have a 30" inseam and have no problem with straddling my ST. I have it on the lowest seat setting. Check out the bikes for sale on here and look at the online cycle trader, also. Good deals to be had if you look around.

Welcome , I am new also and short strided. My 30" inseam with the seat in the lowest position will let my booted heals rest on the ground. Balls of my feet let me stand and clear the seat. ST1300 is very comfortable for me . Low center of gravity. just get rolling and the weight disappears. Just my take, your experience may vary. Pull the trigger, ride on and be safe!

Thanks for all replys. Dealer wants $4995 for the 2009 ST1300. 102k miles but big seller for me is the MC cruise control. It also has an aftermarket seat. Will that affect the adjustable seat? I currently have a Goldwing trike & VTX1300. I put a cheapo Vista throttle lock on it but is basically worthless. Loses speed instantly. Got to have cruise for my wrist which cramps up after 15-30 min. of riding

$5K feels a little on the high side of acceptable, but if you have the cash and want it, I'd recommend taking your time looking at it for signs of excessive wear or abuse.

Alternately, I think a case could be made that you might have better luck purchasing a bike from someone here on the forum. You'll have a greater likelihood of getting one in better shape, from a more knowledgeable owner, with less anonymity than buying one from a dealer.

One man's opinion, not to be confused with fact.

102k miles is just a third of it's life time potential. But that clock will work in your favor pricewise. Also,,, point out that the smc is likely shot,,, and should be replaced. That should lower the price further. I have 127k miles on my '04,,, and have a 30" inseam. Everything is great. Good boots are a must. Welcome to the club,,, CAt'

I went 180,000 on my 2005 ST and the guy that bought it is well over 200,000 now. The day I sold it I would have needed nothing more than a change of clothes to ride it across the continent. I had complete confidence in it.

Still, miles are miles even on a Honda and since Honda never updated that model there are plenty of lower mileage ST1300s for 2/3rd the money.

Yep. Dealer is a bit high. Searched cycle trader and a one owner 2006 ST1300, new tires & battery with all service records for $3500. Only 160 miles from me. Like the dark blue better than red also

Welcome Rhino from the SW side of Paradise. What part of the state are you in? A nice lookin Black 06 1300 just outside St. Louie (Clayton) with 34,000. Asking $4300, price is flexible.

I bought a ST1300 with a custom seat, and as a result it couldn't be adjusted at all. You may want to check if the seat is actually adjustable. Also note that it may not be your style even though it's custom...only way to find out is to ride a long time, and that's not happening until after you buy. I wish I had the stock seat on mine, but I never did

My Russell Day Long improved comfort but at the cost of a small rise in seat height. It didn't really bother me that I couldn't flat foot the bike while seated but it did require heightened attention when coming to a stop, to be sure I could get a foot down "enough".

Did not have that issue with my Sargent, but it was not as comfy as the Russell.
