Here We Go Again - News From The Holler

Somewhat more seriously, Phil, from the xray it looks like you got a new ball on your arm bone - humerus. How did they fasten that to the bone, a super glue? And that new ball fits perfectly in your existing socket in the scapula, or did they do something to the socket as well?
I think it is a 'newer' procedure they use now where the length of 'ball' prothesis is much shorter and there is not as much bone 'destruction'.
The new 'ball', if I understand it correctly, is screwed in and glued.
The new 'socket' which does not show up clearly in the x-ray is glued in place.
The surgeon said he had to use extra 'glue' on the 'new' socket because of the extra wear on the original socket.
So I'm thinking that that 'glue' is actually some sort of medical grade epoxy type concoction.
According to the results so far on other people, this method seems to work better, last longer, and you heal quicker than the 'older' methods.
And the incision is also glued together instead of stitched or stapled but it looks more like 'glue' in the traditional sense.

I donated my prostate 2 weeks ago today.
Done robotically, I have 6 1-inch long stab wound- looking incisions around my belly, all covered with super glue that's starting to peel off now.
It's kind-of stretchy, too, like a silicone.
No stitching nor stapling here, either.

@Uncle Phil .
Hi , MrsC is impressed with your xray pic. Her being in the same club ,with a replacement elbow [5mph bike tumble].
She asks what material have they used? Her joint is solid titanium and strangely enough does not actually belong to her !! If ever she has "no further use" for it she has to return it to the hospital !!!
Incidentally her's was/is glued in and for a while after the op she had the strange sensation that it had come unglued - further xrays showed this was not the case but the feeling was disconcerting. Exercise and therapy is the key to full recovery but you know that.
take care
Laurie [and the titanium MrsC]

Now that is interesting - I wonder if the hospital ever does 'repossessions'? ;)
Do they come calling when you croak and remove it?
I think over here your insurance (and you) pay for the procedure and the 'new' joint.
I'm guessing my new 'joint' is probably titanium also but I'll have to ask when I see the doctor next trip.
They also have some sort of composite material for cushion from what I understand.

My knee surgeon told me to come back every three years for an x-ray to verify all was well.
He said if the cushions were worn, he could replace them with minor surgery before the metal parts got worn.
Sort of like replacing brake pads before they damage the discs!

Uncle Phil
"repossessions" lol, we wondered that too.
As for when you croak ,I think possibly there exists a system to return it through the funeral directors but I don't know for sure [not gonna ask either].
Her surgery was done in the UK under the National Health Service ansd so was 100% free , so I guess they have the right to retain ownership.
We now live in France and as UK has left the EU I don't think they will get it back ever,; too bad ,lol. [That wasn't the reason we emigrated though ,haha.]

There actually WAS a movie about a crew who repossessed organs, when the recipient quit paying, or was unable to pay for it.
Was that Repo Man?
Close -- "Repo Men", with Forrest Whitaker and Jude Law.

Just got back from my 6 week visit to the shoulder doc.
He was amazed and pleased with the range of motion that I have at this point.
He also said I am free to go without the sling which makes me a real happy feller! :run1:
I still have more range to gain so I have more therapy scheduled for that and to build strength in it.
And I am on the calendar for the right one to be replaced on January 31st.
3 surgeries down, 1 to go!

Glad everything is going on according plans. After all the Georgia spring rally is 4 months away and I know you will be there. Take care my friend.

Don't go riding on no more pig trails for a while, ok?
But if you do, might I suggest a lighter bike...

Well, tomorrow (Monday) is the day for surgery number 4 - right shoulder replacement.
I reckon I will wake up from it being lefthanded for a while! ;)
As is often the case, I don't have to be there until 12:30 PM and surgery is around 3 PM.
The last time I was there I learned a new term for folks that can't eat anything after midnight and their surgery is scheduled late in the day.
The duty nurse said they call that being 'hangry' - hungry + angry!
I am past ready to get the right one fixed as it has gotten worse and worse as I rehabbed the left one.
I told the hospital when they called Friday checking on me that they could do it today if they could work me in!
I really appreciate all your kind prayers and wished and please remember me tomorrow about 3 PM when I'm in the repair shop.

Ask them to see a copy of the “Reassembly is the reverse of the above” instructions. If they don’t have one or it doesn’t include things like “ensure all necessary parts are included and reinstalled correctly” or “ensure all unnecessary parts, tools, cleaning materials etc. are removed before buttoning up” then fear the worst and ask to assist.

All the best tomorrow, UP, and my thoughts and prayers are with you all day…
