I think it is a 'newer' procedure they use now where the length of 'ball' prothesis is much shorter and there is not as much bone 'destruction'.Somewhat more seriously, Phil, from the xray it looks like you got a new ball on your arm bone - humerus. How did they fasten that to the bone, a super glue? And that new ball fits perfectly in your existing socket in the scapula, or did they do something to the socket as well?
The new 'ball', if I understand it correctly, is screwed in and glued.
The new 'socket' which does not show up clearly in the x-ray is glued in place.
The surgeon said he had to use extra 'glue' on the 'new' socket because of the extra wear on the original socket.
So I'm thinking that that 'glue' is actually some sort of medical grade epoxy type concoction.
According to the results so far on other people, this method seems to work better, last longer, and you heal quicker than the 'older' methods.
And the incision is also glued together instead of stitched or stapled but it looks more like 'glue' in the traditional sense.
