Here We Go Again - News From The Holler

Here’s to a speedy post-op recovery. We’re all looking forward to more bear hugs from you!

My vascular doc said everything looked fine on the sonogram yesterday and can come back in 6 months for a CT scan to make sure all was still well.
Got some claudication in the right hip but that happens when you shut down the internal iliac artery (the first surgery).
Shoulder doc is now setting me up for a left shoulder replacement on November 8th.
So two down, two to go!
I wonder if this will make me a 7 million dollar man instead of a 6 million dollar man when I'm done ... :think1:

I see what your doing....You are getting yourself overhauled for the next riding season:bk13:

Hi UP, not been on here for a few years.... but thought it quicker to come on here and just say that Miss Mary and me are thinking of you and praying that you will recover well from all your refurbishment!

Brings new meaning to the verse about "All things work together".....

I am guessing that air travel will be interesting once all this is done.... you will be setting off the metal detectors before you even step in!!!

The tough part about the next surgery is I figure I will be out of the saddle for probably six months. That is if I can get 'functional' with the left quickly and get them to do the right shoulder shortly there after. That's the longest time since 1971 when I joined the USMC and was out of the saddle for 18 months. But hopefully I'll be able to do Alaska and Newfoundland next year with my 'new' hardware! And the good thing is that the rest of my 'major' joints have either been replaced, repaired or are in good shape so maybe this will be the last 'big one'! And it will lower my 'average' age when I average the age of the new parts and the OEM parts ... ;)

Define "lifetime"?
Til you croak on surgical devices ...
The jury is still out on the 'newer' replacement joints as to how long they will last.
Most have a 'cushion' between the metal parts that is replaceable (my knees do).
If you catch it before the metal starts to wear, they can replace just the cushion - sort of like changing brake pads before the rotors are damaged.
I've had my 'knees' since 2010-2011 and have them checked about every 3 years - so far so good!
The only other issue is the prothesis coming 'unglued' from the inside of the bone due to trauma or too much stress.
That requires a whole new replacement.

Boy, I bet you're a favorite with TSA at the airport. It must take an extra 5 minutes to manually scan all of your metal parts before they let you through.

I just tell them to go ahead and send me through the full body scan and save us both some time. ;)

Well, we had a care meeting at the physical rehab center yesterday and my lovely wife probably will not be coming home until November 30th.
I guess it just takes a good while for a cracked pelvis to heal and to be able to put weight on it.
Life - it do get interesting at times.
