'21 BMW R1250RT

I invested in the GS-911 a couple years ago for our Beemers to reset the service reminder. I can use it to reset it on both of our bikes (K1600 an R1200RT). I can do most of the service on both bikes myself with the exception of the valve checks. Not comfortable doing those. So that includes tires, oil and filters, air filters, final drive fluid and basic maintenance on them. I figure that saves me some bucks by doing at least that amount of "free" labor ;)

A valve check on a K1600 looks like it could be a bit of work.

Good report there Joe....keep em coming. A real help for those considering a "change". It will be good to see how the heat management is on your 1250 RT in june july august in Texas. Always like the RT's just could not buy one when Honda was making their ST series of bikes. But now that they are kaput those BMW's are looking quite nicely as an modern replacement for a true long hauler.

Just be glad you didn't get the Nav VI BMW / Garmin GPS, it is, by all accounts extremely buggy. One guy on the BMW Sport Touring forum is on his eighth replacement unit! Not good!
One big reason I considered this was I liked that it no longer had that built in spot for the gps ... so I can change them if I want. I think they are working on an interface that will allow some functions to be used w/handlebar switches for the XT but I don't see the point.

I left a few things out too...

Shift Assist - Both up and down quick shifting - 1st to 2nd and sometimes 3rd can be abrupt unless you are accelerating aggressively - so for 1-to-2 and 2-to-3 I use the clutch but not the rest of the way up or all the way down except I typically pull in the clutch when coming to a stop and going from 2-to-1.

Hiss Start Control - I turned that off, it's kind a neat as it holds the brake on an incline like going into my driveway but takes more throttle to get it going and move forward - I can just see me screwing that up - maybe I need more practice later but for now I just disable that and hold the brake - old school style lol

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) - I hardly ever used the Cruise Control on previous bikes so I would have preferred to not have ACC and get a discount on the bike but that wasn't an option. However, I did try it a few times and it works well, just like on newer cars.
Joe, have you tried the shift assist in different rider modes? I'm wondering if that has an effect on the behavior of the shift assist

I can't recall, I mostly ride in Dynamic mode but will try to remember to see how it works in the other modes next time I'm out.

Only one, traded the 15 in for the 20; but I had have a couple of RS's and the K16B.

Now thats a MANCAVE !!! I don't see one feminine item in there Oh Boy ;)

Actually, you don't need the internet to access maps on the RT as you would download the maps to your phone via the app beforehand and acceses via wifi. But, IMO so far, the zumo is still better.

Does it come with built in Nav? The original post pictures make it look like it comes with built in nav.
Thanks, John

You download the bmw Motorrad app on your phone, use that to download maps to your phone, pair it to the bike and it uses the phone to display maps and routes on the dash.

Sound like how my AK 550 Noodoe app works. On dash navigation using the phone to download maps and routes via BT. Only Noodoe is very proprietary and I'm still working out the quirks and deciding if it works well enough for me. The bane of integrated navigation on any vehicle.

For all the improvements the newest generation of boxer brings, and there are many I wish I had in my RT, I wish range hadn't taken such a hit. My '07 hexhead easily goes 280 miles a tank with .5 gallon yet in reserve.

I actually like this setup. Reason being there are lots of Wing owners that have built in GPSs but can't do all that much with them and end up using their zumos instead and the in-dash gps is just an extra view of maps but a bit of a waste of space (in my opinion). With the BMW option now, if you don't care for the in-dash setup, you can use your zumo and rather than wasted space, you just utilize more of the dash for the display of just the bike info;

In dash gps running:

or, bypass that and just have a bigger dash view:

Yes, GW gps is a waste. But I'd like if they had left a spot for a Zumo like it was in the former RT. Now what if you navigate and someone's calling you. Do you losing the nave screen or voice navigation?
Works just like a zumo, the call appears on the screen.

So it's not like Google Maps on your phone? You use the actual BMW app with the maps loaded?
I wonder why they didn't just load the maps on the TFT unit?
