Ah, but you are pretty good at that! :biggrin:
On the ST1100, the ABSII stay is different that the standard stay because of all the ABSII relays that are 'hung' on it.

That's good to know, that my entire "fairing stay" is replaceable.

But it looks like to repair the existing black steel framework we see here, I would have to do some welding-- which is OK because I'm thinking about extending that mirror out another six or 8 inches away from the bike to give me a better view behind me.

I'm OK with the bike having asymmetrical mirrors, the left one being significantly longer and not having a silver ABS plastic fairing around it. I know I'll still have to rig up some type of attachment for a turn signal though .

The red arrow points to where the crack is on mine, and now that I've looked at it more closely with a flashlight it looks like it's about 80% cracked and only being held together by the front 20% of that steel tubing / pipe.
 
I took the easy route on a higher set of mirrors for the 1300. The mounts can be had at amazon and ebay and any set of mirrors will pretty much do. They work with the stock windscreen but not so good with the Vstream which is too wide when in the lowered setting.

The stock mirrors are pretty much good to check that my side bags are closed or I can set them so that I can see behind me while standing on the pegs.

The upper cowl stay is expensive new. I was able to find one on FB Marketplace.

I look forward to reading and seeing (pics please) of your repair and modifications.

What you might consider is fabbing up an adapter that bolts into the stay in place of the mirror, and then extends out for the mirror to bolt into.
That way if you don't like it or you need to adjust the length, you're not removing tupperware.
 
Mirrors on the 13 just do dangerous for me....I fabbed up a pretty hokey setup on my dash board...then put a mirror on it...Best thing I ever did to the bike.

I know they say "a picture is worth 1000 words" but here I can't quite understand what I'm looking at in that photo,

and I can't zoom in very well on my smart phone. It pixelates badly if I expand it more than about 50%.

Can you tell me how you fabricated a mount that allows you to put in those other mirrors? What kind of bar did you use to twist around that way, and how does it attach/interface with the bikes frame or fairings?

I like this idea because I already have experience in buying extended-stem mirrors that are made to simply screw down into vertical threaded holes (metric M10?)
built into the brake lever assembly on your right, and the clutch assembly on your left.


Question:

How did you find room on the round portion of your handlebar to add the mirror mounting base clamp?

Even though the clamp looks like it is only 3/4 of an inch wide per your photos ,

I don't have more than 1/4 inch of visible round handlebar space on either side the other stuff. The grips and switch assemblies occupy all the available real estate.

The un-threaded half of the original Honda clamp that holds the master cylinder to the bars, called a holder by Honda, is removed and replaced with an after market holder that has a threaded hole in the top to accept a top-mounted mirror. This replacement holder consumes the same amount of space as the original Honda one does.

Below is an example. I didn't look for one that will specifically fit an ST1300. I just grabbed the first example that I saw to give you the idea. There are many available in many different colours.

Yep, this is the type of thing I used and I also kept the Oem part on the bike with the tool kit as they are small and easy to carry - just in case these very cheap aftermarket break while traveling I would have a way to remount the master cylinder. (They have not broke and I've used them for about 70K miles)

The Saeng remix has been "molds are ready" for quite some time. I have it on my list to design my own and print because I like the design and placement, but I've only been able to find the saeng as a mfg of this style.
 
Have you thought of using the light brackets for the police version?

You could maybe mount aftermarket mirrors to them.

The mounts do work on non-policd modles:

There is a difference between the police cowl stay and civilian, however. The police one is more robust to deal with the extra forces so that may be an issue. That being said, I've never had issues with mine after +10k miles but I've only mounted lights to them.

The prototype test fit is complete. I'm still trying to find a way to mount it without drilling the windscreen. The good news is the design will be functional on probably the stock windscreen also. I have a stock screen with which to test fit, but I just finished this tonight.

How many of you (us) strenuously object to drilling holes in the windscreen?

I have a set of bar mirrors, and with the upright riding position I prefer to have something nearer to my line of sight and more conspicuous to see behind me more easily.
