YAI/GIT (Yet another instrument/gear indicator thread)

So as I posted in another thread, I think I want to do this as well.

A couple of questions:
  1. I went to the bluegauges web site, but I didn't see an option for the needles, turn signals, etc... Did you use the custom quote?
  2. Also, I'm guessing that you purchased fairly recently, but is this guy still supplying the service? When you click on the product page, it takes you to "page not found" page. I found the ST-1300 gauges by searching google directly, however.
I'm gonna send him an email, but I thought I'd tap you for insght! :D

Hi @Nexus, happy to share my experience.

  1. I don't think I exercised a custom configuration or needed a custom quote. If you look carefully at the photos @SupraSabre posted on his personal website you'll see that Honda appears to specify different LED colors for much of the instrument panel. http://www.hamptonrpi.com/V4Files/ST1300Files/ST1300SpeedometerRepair/target19.html. I just confirmed with Scott Woodruff at BlueGauges that I wanted the OEM colored LEDs in those locations -- just brighter versions. I printed the picture I attached below and included it with my order. Those I labeled as "WHITE LEDs" are the ones he explicitly includes in the description of his service. The red and yellow are the additional ones I asked for. I didn't pay anything extra for this... of course I might be hard pressed to confirm that he replaced them at all! For me there was no point in replacing those in the right-side pod with brighter ones - neutral, FI, ABS, high beam and oil pressure. The OEM ones are plenty bright enough.
  2. I had my upgrade done in mid-February. I'm pretty sure he's still around. Assuming he isn't having trouble sourcing his LEDs I suspect he'll get them done promptly. My impression is he has the skills and equipment to work with the surface mount device (SMD) LEDs and this is a supplementary income source for him.

I mentioned that the link on his webpage to select ST1300 is broken, but I don't thin he cares enough to fix it. Oh well.
