Wobble - What to look for?

Huh?!
A long time ago we had this "discussion" on STeinar's famous mymc PanEuro email list...
It soon was found that, besides worn front tire, improper rear shock setting and/or worn rear tire (as well as improper payload distribution) were ID-ed as source in the majority of cases...
Followed by "wrong tire choice"... (some brands/types, like Dunflop, just don't work on an ST...)
Worn head bearings, fork bushings, loose bolts, misaligned assembly were actually a minority...

My '00 model on new G547/G548 tires: no dec wobble at all... once the G547 (front) is at the end of its lifetime: some slight dec wobble, but controllable...
(I recall having tested a new set of BT45 back in the day, the front showed a quite noticeable, annoying wobble, even while leaned/in corners... took them off after only a weekend, installed G547/548, the ST rolled perfect again...)
Can't agree more on the early Dunlops. They were fitted alongside Bridgestones as oem in the UK. God awful tyres, at 80 plus mph the thing was uncontrollable, it would go into a massive weave that it didn't want to come out of.
I don't know about their most recent tyres, Dunlop ain't for me. You don't forget experiences like that.

Your review covers it quite good ;)
Had the D103 and the D205, neither impressed...

There was a reason I called them 'DunFlops'!

I can actually interject here…I’m running a Shinko Verge on the front of the 94 (and a Raven on the back)- in the recent past I’ve noted a progressively worse decel headshake (with hands lightly off the bars) and I changed to tapered bearings on the bike last year (I believe after the Shinkos installation). As an experiment (and after several tightening adjustments to the head bearings without any benefit), I swapped my 2000 front wheel/tire (a new Metzeler Z8) to the front of the 94 (but not vice versa to try the 94 wheel on the 2000). Result: headshake was completely gone (I did this yesterday and the head adjustments a couple of days back). I had a headshake with the Verge on the 94 in the remote past with the OEM ball bearings when I first bought the bike used) and thought I could get away with another go with the Shinko after tapered bearings, but I guess not. The wheel bearings rotate properly and are not notchy and I tightened the axle/ pinch bolts the way people indicate here, but no change in the headshake is noted. I took the 94 for a nice ride today and it rides and handles fine (and in truth, despite 6K miles on the Shinkos, they look like near new), but I’ll run them another 2-3K and then get a new set of tires, likely Pirelli Angel GT or another set of Z8’s.

I guess I haven’t purchased tires in some time, but they all seem pretty expensive these days (like ~ $350 for a set of new tires), except for the Shinkos, but I don’t see myself getting them again.
