Wise Sayings...or Not

Not implying anybody on this site, but in my recent social media travels, this one sticks with me lately....
Mike Tyson said...."Social Media has made people way too comfortable with being disrespectful and not getting punched in the face for it."

Mike Tyson said...."Social Media has made people way too comfortable with being disrespectful and not getting punch in the face for it."
Mike Tyson should be considered America's Poet Laureate about all face punching wisdom. He also said 'Everyone has a plan, until they get punched in the face'

“I am absolutely convinced that meaninglessness does not come from being weary of pain; meaninglessness comes from being weary of pleasure. And that is why we find ourselves emptied of meaning with our pantries still full.” ― Ravi Zacharias

Since we're on math, Einstein on math and such:
  • As far as the laws of mathematics refer to reality, they are not certain, and as far as they are certain, they do not refer to reality
  • Do not worry about your difficulties in Mathematics. I can assure you that mine are still greater
  • It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer
  • The formulation of a problem is often more essential than its solution, which may be merely a matter of mathematical or experimental skill
Though I'm more in line with Feynman
  • Some things that satisfy the rules of algebra can be interesting to mathematicians even though they don't always represent a real situation.
  • To those who do not know mathematics it is difficult to get across a real feeling as to the beauty, the deepest beauty, of nature ... If you want to learn about nature, to appreciate nature, it is necessary to understand the language that she speaks in
  • One cannot understand... the universality of laws of nature, the relationship of things, without an understanding of mathematics. There is no other way to do it.
  • There is no harm in doubt and skepticism, for it is through these that new discoveries are made.
  • The truth always turns out to be simpler than you thought.
More Feynman
  • You have no responsibility to live up to what other people think you ought to accomplish
  • The first principle is that you must not fool yourself and you are the easiest person to fool
  • I think it's much more interesting to live not knowing than to have answers which might be wrong
  • I would rather have questions that can't be answered than answers that can't be questioned.
  • I'm smart enough to know that I'm dumb.
  • If you thought that science was certain - well, that is just an error on your part.
  • For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for nature cannot be fooled.
And of course:
There are 10^11 stars in the galaxy. That used to be a huge number. But it's only a hundred billion. It's less than the national deficit! We used to call them astronomical numbers. Now we should call them economical numbers.
If he had only known.
