Hey Y’all, 2005 ST1300 - Windshield rises up with no problem, lowering is a different story. Intermittent lowering. Have to press multiple times to lower. Thoughts? Take apart and clean? Just spray with elec contact cleaner? Thank you in advance. Brian…

Can you tell for sure it is actually the switch not making contact and not the windshield mechanism that is binding on the way down?

Checking with pushing down on the screen while activating the switch might give an indication.

Yes, take it apart and clean it. Your bike is 20 years old and the grease on the sliders is no doubt hard and dry. If you want the cables and drive gear to last, a good thorough cleaning is necessary. That said, you can probably get away with spraying the switch with plastic friendly contact cleaner. That might work. If the mechanism itself is at fault you will have to do the strip and clean. Parts are available from bikequip.com in the UK - they sell the drive gear and cables. Honda only sells the complete set up for (last I heard) around $450. Some folks have sourced the limit switches, you will have to search this website for those threads.

You might need a new limit switch if the lowering is from the max up position. You can only reach this switch by removing all the tupperware. Read these articles:
