Add me to the list of broken windshield adjusters. :(

I have it about half apart and I'm sure the gear is toast, as the left side goes up faster than the right. Each subsequent lower and raise makes it worse.

I checked all the other threads, but was not able to find a fix. Has anyone come up with one, other than complete replacement?

Buy a 2003 standard. Mine will never fail, Oh thats right, i do not have one.

I know there are a few looking at a way to fix, but I do not think that one has been made, YET. As nice at it may seem, I will keep my fixed one. I am sure that if mine was adjustable, I would be in the same boat.

Best to you.

Kevin

My solution was the extended warranty. If it wasn't for that, I would have had to buy a new one!:

How about a recall from Honda? The failure rate points to a very flawed design. I myself am looking for a replacement now. Mine won't move at all!!

Do you really have to remove the side cowls to remove the upper front cowl? Looks to me like they're not connected.

Recalls are typically done for safety reasons. I can't see this falling into that category. Some have failed but I don't see it as an alarming number from what I've seen on the site. Most moving parts will wear out eventually, some sooner than others and most at different times. Sux when it happens but ya just have to deal with them using the available options... in this case, a new assembly is pretty much the only option.

The black part? No, just the mirrors...

Not the inner cowls. The Manual shows that you have to remove the side main body panels to remove the front upper cowl. I just can't see why.

Is there a guide for this front upper cowl panel? I couldn't find one on STwikki and the manual sucks on this part. I just don't want to remove lots of unnecessary parts to get at the windscreen adjuster.

You don't need to remove the side panels .

You don't need to remove the front cowl .

Just the matte- black plastic part.

Remove the windscreen .

Remove the windscreen stays .

Pull the 6 or 8 pop-in rivets .

Unscrew the 4 philips from the instrument panel, You can see them from the seat .

I've already done all of that, but it's not enough to get to and remove the adjuster assembly.

Sorry, I cleaned and lubed mine with just the Matte-panel off.

The only time I had the front cowl off, I already had the side panels off..

Have you tried pulling the mirrors as Joe said ?

I have. When prying at things a little bit, I think there are some screws under there, covered up by the upper side (middle) cowls. Looks like everything is coming off tomorrow. I don't feel like getting into it tonight.

I just wish there were better directions than the manual. Something like the posts on here about removing all of the other bodywork. If there is, I can't find it.

I guess while everything is apart, I'll tackle the radiator flush and install a new thermostat.

I think there are 2 screws on each side as well.

I got those too, along with a couple others I thought might need to come off. I pulled the upper part of the middle cowl away and thought I could remove it, but I can't seem to pull the tabs out of the grommets connecting it to the frame.

Like I said, I think I'll take it all apart anyway and do the t-stat and flush. Probably just get new hoses as well, since they're almost 10 years old. Anyone remember a source for the constant tension clamps and the correct sizes? I'm sure I can look it up and find it, though.

OK..most say there are NO dumb questions: I have watched this Thread and after looking at the "cheesy worm gear".....I wonder how many adjust their windshields frequently while going over 55 MPH? Why do I ask this? Because it would seem there could be the possibility that the drag/wind pressure could advance the wear on the pewter-cast worm gear. I never adjust mine unless stopped or I'm under 30 mph. Just saying..... Honda should be spanked hard for this engineering fiasco!! Smaller plastic/fiberglass circular gears would be a better solution. (My opinion...)

We all adjust at speed. Sometimes all the way down until I get tired of the wind noise, then up it goes.

They should sell the gear, though, instead of having to replace the whole thing, regardless of what it's made of.

I took everything apart - To drop the front cowl, you do need to remove the middle cowls, but first you have to remove the lower and inner cowls.

I re-adjusted the windshield to straight and set it to just lookover height, then buttoned everything back up again, because my parts won't be here for about 3 weeks and I don't want to be without the bike that long. I also have a full tank and want to drop that down so I can replace the thermostat and air cleaner while I have it apart next.

$400 later............ I'll be good as new again. Just poorer.
