Where did you ride today?

I saw a high of 80 on the ride today but the wind was also high. It was a matter of dodging the building storm clouds so I just went home and parked it for the day. That's 26.66c for @NTausch way up in the nord land.

I recently learned there was a site built in 2019 near where the Lynyrd Skynyrd group's tour plane crash happened. So I finally made it over that way for a look. Nicely done memorial. It's basically about 50 miles north of Hammond LA. if you want to look for the location northeast of Gillsburg MS.

Wait. Whose bike is that in the picture? The cup holder seems familiar, but the bike looks too clean.

Where no bike has gone before. Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Black Pearl. Its fourteen-year mission: to explore strange new roads. To seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no bike has gone before!

Funny this photo is within a mile of the Pearl River. The border of LA. and MS. Highway 607 going north to the Stennis Space Center. My GPS said I could ride north on 607 across Stennis base to Picayune Missizzippi but the man at the gate with the pistol said "No".

Been there done that. The piece of paper I had with me said fine to cross base, man at the gate with M-16 said no. As I had played rock, paper, sizzors, I understood the concept that rifle covered paper, so I went around as requested to ride another day.

Thanks for the conversion. Again I am envious. They sprayed some salt crap on the roads and I haven’t seen the day star in what seems like weeks. I want to slit my wrists. But I won’t. Just dreaming of my first RTC in May. Also the first RTE in April. Hoping to get the bike out by March 15th.

I'll be going through Arizona this coming spring. Wondering if any one has an opinion if this place is worth a half day?
Pima Air & Space
One of the largest non-government funded aviation & space museums in the world!
Featuring about 400 historic aircraft, from a Wright Flyer to a 787 Dreamliner. Sitting on 80 acres the museum opened its doors to the public in May of 1976. Over the past forty years, the museum has grown immensely and today encompasses six indoor exhibit hangars (three dedicated to WWII).

Been there a long time ago. I'm sure they have added a lot of historic aircraft since. I would say it is a must see IF you really like to see historic aircraft from all the history of flight. I was still in the military at the time and also visited the warplanes graveyard down the road. That was almost as interesting. Especially since they had all but a few of the Air Force and Navy A7 jets (different versions) that I used to work on before they were retired. The one my unit called the hangar queen is "stuffed" and on a pedestal at the local entry gate to the Army Guard base here in Des Moines (Johnston, IA actually).

With temps up to 66 F today, haddd to take the bike and go get some special dog food that I use as treats, so I rode the 52 miles to the store. Coming back it got down into the 40's. That full face helmet I have on order would of come in handy!

Big Bend National Park today. Chilly 22F start but warmed to 60F by 1 PM. Long day 370 miles some quite technical running along the Rio Grande. The desolate terrain makes one feel quite small and creation quite large. Not many tourists in the area of the park this time of the year.

My wife needed me to deliver some baby shoes to someone across town who wanted to buy them. All our grand kids are too big now to use them and don't expect any more to come along so we don't need to keep the baby stuff. I took city streets going there but then headed out into the country coming back home after a total round trip of only 40 miles. Temps stayed right around 50F. The heat wave has started here.

When I went out to my AK 550 there was no response to the attempt to turn the bike on. It's a keyless fob system like many modern 4 wheeled vehicles. Just put the fob in my pocket and everything works... usually. When I pulled the fob out of my pocket and pushed the button on it (the button only shows fob battery condition) there was no LED. That meant the fob battery was dead. The fob was working fine yesterday. I tried the backup fob and that battery was also dead. I know the bike battery was good since it was still plugged into the Battery Tender and that was showing a good charge on the bike battery. Like all keyless start systems there is a backup method to start the bike. There is a symbol on the dash on which I can place the logo of the dead fob and the AK comes to life so no issue getting the bike started but I now have to order new batteries. They should be here Monday

I also stopped for gas first before riding across town. I could have gone there and back and then stopped for gas but decided the time was right when the lines that are always at Costco are shortest so I went there first. Calculated the mpg on this last tank of gas at 51 mpg. That includes a run yesterday at below zeroF riding at -2.5F. I was actually expecting at best a few below 50 mpg but this is good.

Decided on an arts tour for the day inspired by @drbuzzard

The Philadelphia Art Museum was our first stop. Previously you could park at the top of the stairs for this shot.

225 miles with my friend Steve wandering roads in South Georgia before returning to our Northeast Florida homes. 50F at dawn and 70 four hours later. This spot is where the ferry crossing integral to the 250 year old King's Road from Colerain, GA to approximately Oak Hill, FL crossed the St. Mary's River. I stop here often on day rides.
