What have you hit with your bike..??

In 97' I hit a 85' Ford Escort (beige) as it was pulling out across the road on a blind 45 MPH corner. 70' rear tire skid mark from my 81' CB900 which was until this moment a very clean specimen. Could not get the bike all the way down on the left side so it acted like a catapult when I hit the escort. 75' of flight through the air landed me on the opposite side of the shoulderless 2 lane road. Hit backwards (don't know how that happened) and broke my pelvis. Thanks to ATGATT that was the only damage I suffered. Painful yes, but I didn't lose any parts. Helmet didn't even hit the ground hard as I rolled over on impact. Broke the bike frame in half and totaled the escort also.

Stable fracture so no surgery. Went back to work 12 weeks to the day of the accident. My wife was pissed that I spent our first anniversary in the hospital. I guess she got over it, since we've been married for 19 years the end of next month.

Never hit anything but bugs, but I almost hit a duck once back in 1978.
I was riding a '76 Honda 400f Super Sport and came around a curve with a pond on the inside. The duck lifted off as I came up and headed away from the road, which took it down the highway on the other side of the curve. I was riding along admiring the view until I suddenly realized I was catching the duck at a speed differential of about 60 MPH. The final 30 feet I was looking right up the ducks 20 as it tried valiantly to out fly whatever that noisy beast was that was chasing it. I guess it decided it was time to jettison anything that was not required and let loose with a stream of duck doo doo right in front of my face. I was wearing a full face helmet, but as it happened, I hit nothing. The wind deflection pushed the doo doo off to the side, and the duck swerved off left at the last possible milli-second.
I did not fall off my bike, but it was close.

I know a group of riders that were riding on I70 outside Colorado in construction traffic when several vehicles ahead a cow pooped down the side of a trailer which got into the duely tires and threw up a green mist which they ALL rode thru.

Jan Cutler told a story about riding with a buddy and taking a two lane clover leaf exit off an interstate. The other rider failed to note the slower tractor trailer combo in the inner lane which he was overtaking was a double decker cattle hauler. Turned out the driver hadn't emptied the drains in a while. Ewwwwwwwww

A few years ago while washing the bike I pulled a good size bat out of the radiator. It must have been there for some time since it was completely dried and stiff. I never liked night riding anyway.

Tom, does that make your STead the "Bat Mobile"?
Was it near the BATtery?

Did it set off your Radar detector???

Should have saved it for a hood ornament. ;-)

I had a sandhill crane walk into me while I was standing still, Bradentom FL. It then walked around the bike and kept going.

Sandhill crane.... huh.......must have had trouble walking around......with a set of balls like that...... to challenge you. '-)

2-3 years ago while leaving the subdivision our home is located in I managed to see the deer in time to get on the brakes HARD and merely clipped the rear hooves of a rather startled deer with my front tire. I won't ever buy another new bike without ABS.

A drunk woman crossing a dual lane highway. A truck made u turn ahead of me and was running on the right berm. I moved to the passing lane and kept my eye on him to see if he was making a right turn into a business or was going to pull back on the road. Moved vision back ahead of me and there was a woman on the dotted white line. I didn't have time to brake so I swerved to the left and clipped her with my right saddlebag. Probably going about 50 mph. Big time tank slapper but didn't go down. Saw her drop in the rear view. Got stopped and ran back. She was up and made her way to berm. Amazingly she was just stunned. Turns out the guy in the truck threw her *** out on the other side of the highway, and left her making the u turn. She was cutting across the road trying to head him off. Cops and ambulance came.. I was fine, she was fine and they let her leave without any citation.

Oh, I also hit a deer on the Blue Ridge Parkway on an ST1100 a couple years earlier. Actually he hit me. Coming around a turn and he came off a bank an hit me right behind the front tire. Again I didn't go down. Made it on home 5.5 hours later but had about $2,000 in new Tupperware, a new radiator, and water pump. I guess I need to hit a vehicle for the trifecta. I hope I don't make it!

Well there was the time heading to CalSTOC and a big rig blew one of it's recaps, took my right side foot peg off and broke one of the pins in my ankle.

Skunk - mid section during turn going 60mph (set the bike up straight - last second, hit it, then got back in the turn) (I was afraid if I hit it while leaning around a sharp corner I would've crashed) (skunk ran off fine and bike smelt atrocious
Dog - side swipe at 70mpg (dog ran home (not limping) - I hope he learned it isn't that fun to actually catch a motorcycle or car) (I was the second person in line flying down a highway and he was originally after the truck that was in front of me)
Many birds and many dead animals in middle of road...

Skunk....that's one I hope I never hit!

Wasn't me, but heard a story recently of a guy hitting a cougar as it was chasing a deer. Cat didn't see biker as it chased the deer across a 45mph road.
Both went down and cat was tangled in bike and rider clothes. Biker kicked free, only after cat tore up his coat. (another reason for ATGATT )
CAt was busted up pretty good. Cat was shot by following car driver who carried.

In 50 years of riding, I have certainly gotten off the bike a few times before I was ready, but I can only recall actually hitting something in the road, twice, unless you count a pothole that dumped me. The first on my Yamaha XS11, was an armadillo that was crossing the road. Tried to avoid him, but caught him with my left boot toe. I remember seeing him rolling alongside the bike at about 75 MPH for several seconds. Must have been one dizzy armadillo when he finally stopped rolling. I was limping for about a week. Second was what appeared be a cinder block that suddenly appeared between the rear wheels of the truck in front of me. I must have been following him too closely, because I had no time to react whatsoever. Hit that sucker dead on, bike bounced up what seemed like 3ft in the air but came down more or less straight, due more to luck than any skill on my part. Bike was a Honda 500 Four, with wire spoke wheels and tube type tires. The front wheel was bent, but the tire did not blow and I was able to ride home and change my underwear with no problems...
